The Cal State LA community thanks President William A. Covino for his 10 years of service to the University. He will retire as the seventh president of the University at the end of July. President Covino will always be a Golden Eagle.

CSU Board of Trustees appoints Mildred García as 11th chancellor
The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Mildred García to serve as the 11th chancellor of the California State University. García currently serves as president of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and previously served as president of California State University, Fullerton and California State University, Dominguez Hills. García is the first Latina appointed to oversee the CSU's 23-campus system. She will begin her tenure as Chancellor on Oct. 1, 2023. Garcia’s remarks are available online [scroll to 6:51].

University Convocation set for Aug. 17
The Cal State LA community is invited to attend University Convocation on Thursday, Aug. 17, at the Luckman Complex. Please join Interim President Leroy M. Morishita as he opens the new academic year. The program will include the introduction of new faculty and the announcement of the Outstanding Professor Awards, the Outstanding Lecturer Award, and the President’s Distinguished Professor Award. Cal State LA Night at Dodger Stadium coming this fall
Join us for Cal State LA Night at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 6:30 p.m. Alumni, students, friends, and family will celebrate Golden Eagle pride and support the Los Angeles Dodgers. These special event tickets are available for purchase only on the Cal State LA Alumni Association website. Each ticket includes one commemorative, limited edition Golden Eagle-themed Dodgers hat. Silverman Gallery features an exhibit by artist C Fodoreanu
The Ronald H. Silverman Fine Arts Gallery at Cal State LA presents an exhibition, Ode to the Lake Sacalaia, by C Fodoreanu. As a physician who studied philosophy and art, Fodoreanu developed an intimate knowledge of the human anatomy and psyche which inspired him as an artist to relate, transcend, and personalize his understanding of human nature through layered visual works. This exhibit will be on display until Aug. 30. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday, from 12 to 5 p.m. A reception will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cal State LA web platform upgrades to Drupal 9
ITS has updated the Cal State LA web platform from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9. All previous content was migrated over on July 13. Web managers are encouraged to review their webpages to ensure everything has migrated correctly. There will be some differences in how to edit web pages. ITS has updated the Drupal support page to reflect these changes.

Veterans Resource Center offers awareness seminar online
The Veterans Resource Center invites faculty, staff, and administrators to attend its Vet Net Ally Awareness Seminar, an educational program designed to develop a network of campus supporters for students who are connected to the military. The Luckman presents Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet
The Luckman will present the world premiere of Etudes by the Raiford Rogers Modern Ballet on Saturday, Aug. 12. Choreographed by Raiford Rogers, the performance is set to Philip Glass' Etudes 5 & 12, and Prophecies. Cal State LA students, faculty, and staff can purchase discounted tickets at the Luckman Box Office upon presentation of a valid Cal State LA One Card.

Luckman Gallery features an exhibit by acclaimed photographer Cristina Salvador Klenz
The Luckman Gallery at Cal State LA is hosting an exhibition, Hidden: Life with California's Roma Families, by acclaimed photographer Cristina Salvador Klenz. The exhibit features the artist's nearly 30-year documentation of Roma lives captured on black-and-white, 35mm film. It will be on display from Aug. 17 to Oct. 14. The gallery hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, noon to 5 p.m., and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The opening reception will take place Thursday, Aug. 17, at 6 p.m.

Employees may find counseling assistance through the Employee Assistance Program, LifeMatters, by calling 1-800-367-7474 or visiting the LifeMatters website. Cal State LA’s company password is GOEAGLES. Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides services to students throughout the summer.
