MARTHA GROVER
Thrown & Altered Porcelain
World-renowned artist Martha Grover shares special techniques that exploit this elegant material’s best qualities. Working with a variety of bottomless wheel-thrown forms and slabs in both soft and leather-hard stages, Martha demonstrates various altering techniques and additions of slabs, handles, and spouts to create an assortment of functional forms. Students make their own flowing porcelain pots and have the opportunity to glaze and fire them.
February 13-17, 9am-4pm
(Demo February 12, 3-5pm)
KIRAH VAN SICKLE
Contemporary Impressionism: Landscape Color & Composition
From Monet to modern—tap into the foundation of Impressionism with a contemporary twist. With a focus on color relationships and loose brushwork known as “broken color,” we will work from still life, landscape photos, and a variety of Impressionist masters from the 19th century and beyond. Build brush-handling and color-mixing confidence through instructor demos, handouts, historical context, and plenty of painting studies.
February 16-18, 9:30am-4pm
JANET ROGERS
Expressive Watercolors:
Flowers to Figures
Fresh flowers are your inspiration for this dynamic workshop—progressing to the head and figure. Fun painting exercises help develop a loose and natural approach, creating more spontaneous and expressive work. Painting the head and figure, we learn to express translucent flesh tones and focus on gestures—work from your photos of people, or from those provided. In addition to demonstrations, Julia will work with each student individually.
February 21-24, 9:30am-4pm
(Demo February 20, 3-5pm)
