Dear Friends of Riley's Farm,
Many thanks to all of you who acted on behalf of our hospital-bound friend. We received a lot of good advice, and I believe the hospital got the message.
Years ago, when my elderly father had a hip replacement, it was my turn to stay overnight with him in the hospital as he recovered. As I took up my chair next to him, the surgeon gave strict instructions not to let him roll over or be moved by staff. A few hours later, in the wee hours of the morning, an orderly started to do just that, and I said, "haven't you read the chart? He isn't supposed to be moved." The fellow looked impatient but he read the instructions and said, "oh, hip replacement. Right. Sorry."
Of all the idiotic policies associated with our national Covid response, the banning of loved ones from visiting their sick relatives rates 112 on the 10 point "really stupid" scale. True professionals -- and I know many of them in the medical field -- don't mind having their work observed.
