Thank you, St. Martin’s!
Thank you, thank you, thank you St. Martin’s! Oh, what a glorious Easter celebration we had Saturday night and Sunday morning. It was made holy by your presence throughout the week, journeying in prayer with Jesus to Jerusalem, the cross, the tomb, and yes, to GLORY! Oh, how glorious to celebrate the empty tomb with all of you. Oh, how exciting to know that Jesus lives at St. Martin’s and beyond! Alleluia!!

I thank you for showing up in Lent, some of you with soup to share on Wednesday nights. I thank you for countless hours of choir rehearsal. I thank you for beautiful flowers and creativity. I thank you for your attention to detail in preparing our altar for holy sacraments. I thank you for preparing thoughtful teachings and activities for children’s chapel and Sunday School. I thank you for showing up again and again to open the church doors and welcome strangers and friends with grace, excellence and hospitality. I thank you for your generosity of spirit. And I thank you for your prayers. We have prayed together so much these past several weeks, and I believe that those prayers are transforming us, even as the living Christ beckons us forward into new life in the church. Thank you!

I wonder what was your favorite moment of Holy Week and Easter Joy? I wonder what you are taking with you into the coming weeks of the Easter season (remember, Easter is 50 days!) I will share with you two moments I carry with me. The first is from Easter Vigil. When all of us gathered in the dark sanctuary around the light of the Paschal candle, and then watched the light grow as candles touched and hearts connected. The growing swell of light in the darkness filled me to the brim! The second is from Easter morning. I choked up processing in singing, “Jesus Christ is risen today!” and again when shouting the good news, “Alleluia! Christ is risen!!” The joy in the room was palpable. We are a people who love Jesus! And we are not afraid to show it! Alleluia.

In the coming weeks, in this season of Easter, I look forward to talking about resurrection together. I look forward to discovering signs of new life and pointing them out to one another: Look at that! I see Jesus! Look at that! That’s new! God is doing a new thing in and through us. Alleluia!
Thank you. I love you. Jesus is alive in you.
