| Big crowd learns, thinks, networks at business summit |
Nearly 160 guests had opportunities to learn, think, network, be inspired and dine Thursday, when your Chamber hosted its second annual Oro Valley Business Summit at the Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort and Spa.
The crowd was double that of a year ago.
Guests heard from:
Tucson Federal Credit Union President / CEO Matthew Gaspari, Executive Vice President and CFO Stacey Wilkerson, and Chief Operating Officer Krystal Adams, who talked about business financial sustainability and the importance of relationships with your credit union or bank;
Good News Communications President Mary Martin and Vice President Bekah Collins, who explained some of the many media out there, those which might fit a particular business need, and gave guests questions to help them identify who they are, and what they need;
Three Buckets Wealth Management leader Ryan Lambert, who challenged his guests to “think about what they think about” and better management their time, energy and focus.
At a rooftop lunch, Oro Valley Mayor Joe Winfield thanked the group for being in the community. He expressed his appreciation for the Chamber (he’s a dues-paying member); “I truly believe it’s that partnership that makes a difference;” and spoke about the ways Oro Valley works to help business.
“We want to be a place where businesses thrive and do well,” the mayor said. “We will continue to do all we can to support you.”
Last, and very much not least, Major Gen. (retd.) Ted Maxwell (pictured above), an Oro Valley resident and the president and CEO of the Southern Arizona Leadership Council, encouraged everyone in the room to be leaders.
“True leaders are going to get followed no matter where they sit in an organization,” Maxwell said.
Watch future newsletters for more in-depth stories on the presentations.

SCORE tells you
how to raise prices
and keep customers
|
It’s more expensive than ever to do business, given inflation, the pandemic, supply chain disruptions and wage costs.
Many small businesses think raising their prices can help with the imbalance, but they’re “hesitant for fear of alienating customers,” according to Chamber member SCORE / Southern Arizona. “But it is possible to keep your customer and raise your prices.”
Within the article “How to raise prices without losing customers,” SCORE gives 12 suggestions on how to go about it. Click here.
SCORE is a collection of retired executives whose mission is to “foster vibrant small business communities through mentoring and education.” The website is score.org.

Tucson Bicycle Classic comes to OV |
New Chamber member Tucson Bicycle Classic is unveiling an exciting new course this year. The 3-day race will culminate with their final race, the circuit race in Oro Valley on March 5th. Click here to find out more.
TBC is looking for volunteers to both help with the event and host top cyclists from around the country and world.
Volunteers help provide safety and security for racers and spectators. Volunteers do NOT need to have prior experience and this is a great way to get involved in a grassroots, community event. Volunteers will receive an event t-shirt, food and refreshments, and a little goodie bag as thanks for their help. Anyone who would like to help can sign up here.
Hosts get the chance to get to know the country’s top riders and get a peek behind the scenes of the racing lifestyle. Lifelong friendships are often formed.
Host families are asked to provide:
- A comfortable sleeping space, bed or air bed
- The use of a bathroom and shower
- Use of kitchen to prepare meals
- Counter and refrigerator space
- Use of your washer and dryer
- A secure place for the cyclist(s) to store their bicycle at night
Hosts are NOT expected to provide food or transportation.

Get tickets for OVTC’s ‘The Sunshine Boys’ |
Tickets are moving briskly for the Oro Valley Theatre Company’s production of Neil Simon’s “The Sunshine Boys,” staged Feb. 17-19 at the Gaslight Music Hall in Oro Valley.
Judi Rodman directs The Sunshine Boys, part of the OVTC’s 2023 Grand Salute to Neil Simon, the most regularly performed playwright in the world.
“The Sunshine Boys” are Willie and Al, 2 greats of vaudeville and perhaps “the most hysterical characters in the Simon collection,” Rodman said.
After 40 years on stage together, Willie and Al are no longer speaking. They’re brought together in grudging reunion by CBS. The plot thickens as they re-create their former volatile, personal relationship, and their sheer genius as vaudevillian comedy stars.
Shows open at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, then again at 2 and 6 Saturday, Feb. 18, and 2 and 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19. Chamber member Gaslight Music Hall is located at 13005 E. Rancho Vistoso. For tickets, call 520-529-1000, or go to orovalleytheatrecompany.org., and press the “get tickets” button, or go to the Gaslight’s website, HOME | Gaslight Music Hall.
