Building Bridges at Horizons at SFFS' 2019 Benefit

On January 31st, 276 people came together at SOMArts Cultural Center for a wonderful night that surpassed our ambitious goal, raising $180,000 to support Horizons' continued growth and impact! Attendees enjoyed cheerful community and delicious food and wine from our friends at Cardel Catering, the Bi-Rite Family of Businesses, Canyon Market, and Vine Connections. We were inspired by guest speakers Alejandra Rincón, who spoke about educational equity and the power of swimming, and Debby Rosenthal, who shared stories of her students, their families, and the positive impact of Horizons. On behalf of Horizons' staff and board, thank you to everyone who attended and gave generously to support access to quality summer learning opportunities for all children. We are also deeply grateful to Alejandra and Debby, to our amazing volunteer 'fund a need' presenter, Matt Perry, to Horizons' event planning committee, and to the event's many local business and individual sponsors. Who Loves Math? Horizons Students Do!

On Saturday, January 12th, more than half of our Horizons families returned to SFFS for one of Horizons' year round events . Parents shared their hopes and perspectives for the program's future as part of Horizons' ongoing strategic planning. SFFS math teacher David Louis led Horizons students, staff, and youth volunteers in playing fun, skill-building math games together. Thank you to everyone who made this special reunion at the midway point of the year a success!
Building our 2019 Dream Team

Every summer, Horizons' talented teachers and staff make learning come alive for our students and we are excited about how our 2019 team is taking shape so far. In addition to the dedicated bilingual faculty members who will be returning from last summer, we are pleased to  welcome 3 excellent new teachers  from local public schools, one from SFFS, and a new assistant teacher who is pursuing her Master's in teaching at USF.  Read more 2019 staff bios on our website.

We will continue hiring lead teachers, a K-2nd grade reading specialist, and assistant teachers in the next month or two! If you know an inspiring educator who would enjoy spending the summer in our joyful learning environment, please direct them to our  employment openings. Candidates bilingual in English and Spanish are especially encouraged to apply.

Volunteer Opportunities

"Nothing is more rewarding than a warm hug from a student after a wonderful day filled with laughs, smiles, and challenges that are always overcome."
- Olivia, Horizons volunteer

Our high school volunteers are part of what makes a summer at Horizons fun. Summer volunteers learn, laugh, and explore with Horizons students as leaders, mentors, and friends. Learn more about volunteering with Horizons and how to apply  here.
