My name is Kyleigh, I am 18 yrs old.
I have 2 brothers and a sister- we are all two years apart. I love sports- lacrosse, weight lifting, swimming, wake surfing, hiking, and kayaking.
My story
At age 9, I got a scratch on my leg, which led to strep in the blood stream. In less than 24hrs I was septic, and admitted to Tacoma General Hospital and put on the ECMO machine. This machine is a life-support system that temporarily takes over the function of a patients heart and lungs. I spent one month in Tacoma General -having multiple amputations, then transported to Seattle Children's Hospital for another month.
My Mom was a NICU Nurse
I've always admired my mom's career as a NICU nurse, stories of her excitement bringing life into this world. My mom tragically died in 2023. To honor her, my joy in kids, and zest for life -my goal is to become NICU nurse like her.
Awarded Scholarship
I'm currently a senior at Gig Harbor Highschool with a 4.0GPA. I work at a sushi restaurant and babysit. Through scholarships and financial assistance I will be attending the University of Hawaii next school year to pursue my nursing degree!
My Devices
I used to wear a different type of brace, but it caused compounding issues from hip imbalances, and lower back issues. These imbalances would have continued to cause nerve damage, lower back issues, pain in my foot which made it hard to even walk and I was unable to do any of the activities love to do. I have a below the knee prosthetic, and an Exo-Sym brace on the other leg.
The ExoSym Brace has changed my life
My Exo-Sym brace, Ryan Blanck, and Hanger Clinic have changed my life on multiple levels. I have no physical imbalances now! I'm able to play lacrosse, weight lift, wake surf, drive, and basically live my life without limitations- while having limitations. I believe that when one is goal oriented, disciplined, and with hard work - you can achieve anything in life.
Thank you for this opportunity Carrell Care!
