Issue #238, November 2024

Thank You for GLOW Contributions

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our recent GLOW fundraisers.

Between our yard sale, a contribution from United Way of Columbia County, and a partnership night with MOD Pizza, we raised more than $4,000 for our GLOW Fund. That will help 53 families in need in our community.

Donate to Our Warming Tree

We are once again continuing our holiday tradition of collecting hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, and other warming items to donate to members of our community this winter.

All items will be donated to Community Action Team to distribute to those in need in Columbia County. We ask that donations be turned in by December 16.

Items may be handmade, new, or gently used.

Deposits Waived for US Military Personnel

We waive our security deposit on new residential accounts for active US military personnel and US military veterans.

To qualify for the waiver, a customer must meet certain criteria.

To request this waiver, please call us at (503) 397-1844.

3 Tips to Reduce Heating Costs this Winter

If you heat your home with electricity, cold weather means higher bills. When it's colder outside, it takes more energy to heat your home – even if you don't adjust your thermostat.

These tips can help you keep your electric usage down this winter:

  1. Lower your thermostat and wear extra layers.
  2. Consider using a programmable or smart thermostat.
  3. Clean or replace your furnace filters regularly.

Find additional ways to save.

How to Cut Your Holiday Lighting Energy Waste

Holiday lights can be beautiful, but leaving them on overnight can waste energy and increase electric costs.

You can lower your bill this holiday season by turning off your holiday lights before you tuck in for the night. A pre-set timer can help.

LEDs use much less electricity than incandescent bulbs. They also put out less heat and more light, which helps keep your electric bill lower.
