Thank you for making the 2023 NYSTIA Annual Meeting a Success!

New Officers, Board Members Elected

A big thank you to the 200+ New York State’s tourism industry professionals who gathered together on September 13-15 at the Hyatt Regency Rochester to make the Annual Meeting of the New York State Tourism Industry Association (NYSTIA) so successful! Programming featured a keynote from Christopher Thompson, President & CEO of Brand USA, multiple workshops and panel discussions on destination management, marketing and stewardship, and reports from NYSTIA committees, advisory boards and task force groups on sustainable tourism practices, DEIA (diversity, equity, inclusion & accessibility), workforce development, and advocacy, and an I LOVE New York presentation on international marketing programs for 2024.


Corey Fram, Director of Tourism at the 1000 Islands International Tourism Council, was elected Board Chair. He succeeds Kelly Curtin, Executive Vice President of New York City Tourism + Conventions, who will now serve on the Executive Committee as Immediate Past Chair. Joining Fram on the Executive Committee are Greg LaDuca (Visit Rochester); Vice Chair-elect; Stephanie Johnson (LEGOLAND NY), Treasurer; Cassandra Harrington (This Is Cooperstown), Secretary; Hillarie Logan-Dechene (The Wild Center), Vice Chair - Advocacy; and John Percy (Destination Niagara USA), Vice Chair - at Large.


Newly elected to a three-year term on the NYSTIA Board of Directors were Hilary Fenner, Executive Director of the Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce, and Olga Luz Tirado, President of O Communications & Solutions, Inc. in Beacon, NY. Re-elected to a second term on the board were Beth Duane (Corning Museum of Glass), Sarah Foster Calero (Oneida County Tourism), Greg LaDuca (Visit Rochester), Hillarie Logan-Dechene (The Wild Center) and Eric Szucs (Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.

2024 Tourism Champions:

Look What We're Planning for 2024!

The commitment of 30+ destinations to our programming and consumer travel shows schedule had a profound impact in 2023: 


  1. We're attracting more attention and providing a better, more interactive experience for consumers with our new booth presentation,
  2. More domestic and international shows have been added to our schedule,
  3. We added member events to our schedule, bringing the Tourism Champions exhibit booth to festivals and attractions in August with plans for more in October,
  4. Our Tourism Champions digital visitors site will go live in the 4th quarter - If you haven't completed your Champions portal page on our new digital visitor site - contact Nate Gresock (nate@nystia.org) now! 


We could add more details in recapping progress in 2023, but we want to share the exciting news about what we're planning for 2024: The planned utilization of the Market NY grant and sponsor support enables us to take the program to a new level! Learn more

Record Spending: Governor Hochul Celebrates Historic Tourism Milestone

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced that New York State welcomed a record 291.5 million visitors in 2022, the largest number of visitors in New York State’s history, generating more than $78.6 billion in direct spending and $123 billion in total economic impact. These figures represent staggering increases over 2021 and surpass the previous records set in 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, following the Governor’s historic investments in tourism, economic development, public safety, transportation, and other key sectors.

New Trail Connection Complete at Seneca Lake State Park

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Department of Transportation, and the City of Geneva have teamed up to create a long-sought extension of the Lakefront Trail in Seneca Lake State Park. The new 2,130-foot-long, 27-foot-wide paved trail connects the City of Geneva’s trail system to the Cayuga-Seneca Canal Trail.

Schenectady's Ale Trail Becomes Schenectady Sips Craft Beverage Trail

Discover Schenectady is re-branding its popular Schenectady Ale Trail to include the county’s distilleries and meadery. The trail will now be known as Schenectady Sips – Craft Beverage Trail. The trail features six breweries including Back Barn Brewing Co., Druthers Brewing Co., Frog Alley Brewing Co., Great Flats Brewing, Seven Points Brewery and Wolf Hollow Brewing Co. New to the trail are the Schenectady Distilling Co., Murray’s Fools Distilling Co. and Helderberg Meadworks.
