Dear Leanne,

Broken hearts and next steps are what’s left for people who are victims of crime and violence - bringing feelings of hopelessness, brokenness and isolation. Thanks to your support, we are able to provide immediate assistance to these victims and their loved ones, in an effort to show them they are not alone and give them hope for the future.

This year as we’ve encountered countless tragedies, like a wife witnessing the death of her husband and a mother suffering a nearly fatal brain injury due to assault, your support has made it possible for us to serve ALL victims who reach out at ALL times.

As you read the final Advocate of the year, I want to remind you of the inspiring impact your partnership has made in 2022 and will continue to make in the new year. May you never forget the mended hearts and the tangible hope your generosity provides to every victim and every survivor each and every day.

Some days our victim advocates serve as safety nets in BOTH capacities – figuratively and literally. Recently, one woman served by our advocates watched helplessly as the father of her children killed himself right in front of her.

Throughout this year as we have celebrated 50 years of showing up, advocating, being there for ALL victims of ALL crimes, we have had the privilege of celebrating “the leaves” on our wall.

We were extremely privileged to host our 29th Annual Angel Tree Ceremony this month at the Akron Public Library. It was a beautiful time of remembrance where the community, friends and family members of homicide victims were able to come together and honor the memories of over 1,300 victims lost in Summit County, due to violence, over the last 25 years.
