THANK YOU
FOR YOUR SUPPORT

THE WORK CONTINUES!
SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH
During April, The Safe Center participated in the National Sexual Violence Resource Center's "30 Days of Sexual Assault Awareness Month" Social Media Challenge. The agency came together to create original content every single day.

Each day , a new prompt allowed us to explore new ways to inspire change and restore hope! We created art, came up with self-care tips, and spread positivity.
DENIM DAY
WHY DENIM? Rome, 1992

A 45-year-old driving instructor picked up an 18-year-old girl for her first driving lesson and he allegedly raped her. While the alleged rapist was convicted and sentenced , the Italian Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1998 because the victim wore tight jeans. It was argued that she must have had to help her attacker remove her jeans, making the act consensual.
April 23rd, 2019

The Safe Center hosted a screening of the 2018 award-winning documentary "I Am Evidence," which follows the stories of survivors who's rape-kits went untested for years. In addition, denim decorated by The Safe Center clients were displayed honoring survivors of sexual violence.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
The Town of Oyster Bay proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month

This month & every month we are raising awareness, providing support, and restoring hope for survivors of abuse

Thank you to the Elected Officials in Oyster Bay!
TASTE THAT JAZZ
On April 8th, over 300 guests gathered at The Carltun in Eisenhower Park to support Safe Center programs and services offered to adult and child victims of abuse.

This year's Taste That Jazz highlighted over 40 vendors specializing in various types of cuisine, beverages and desserts.

It was a sensational evening of culinary excellence and musical charm, which raised over $38k in net revenue due to the generous support of all involved!

We cannot forget our generous sponsors and vendors, gracious in-kind raffle donors, our numerous guests and amazing volunteers. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you who contributed to the success of this year's event and hope to see everyone next year!
