Thank you for your support!

Library Budget passes unanimously

Dear Wallkill Public Library Patrons,

I wanted to extend my heartfelt gratitude and that of the rest of the library staff for your continued support of our efforts to serve the community by taking the time to come out and vote in support of the library budget. The funding approved will allow us to continue providing the same excellent service you've come to expect from the library and allow us to make some improvements to our facilities and services over the coming year!

It's also my pleasure to announce that Christine Morelli and Stan Seagren were re-elected to their roles within the Library Board of Trustees. I'm sure Stan and Christine will continue to be excellent stewards for the library's mission.

Your continued patronage and support of the library is greatly appreciated!

With Sincere Thanks,

Dan Perkins & all of the staff at the Wallkill Public Library

Workshop Wednesdays

Sage Smudging Sticks

There was a sweet, savory smell wafting thru the library on this Workshop Wednesday! This workshop had an all-adult crowd out to assemble sage smudging sticks.

We used fresh white sage grown at the library this summer for a base of our smudging sticks. We added other herbs, wrapped them with cotton cord and learned about the practice of smudging.  White sage, known for its strong and aromatic scent, is the most common herb for smudging. A white sage smudge stick is often used to prevent illness and cleanse a space as it has antimicrobial properties.

Spooky Spell Books

This week’s Workshop Wednesday participants created spooky spell books for haunted Halloween decor!

The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a woman’s act of violence against her husband—and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive.

On Wednesday, October 16 at 4:15 p.m., the adult fiction book club will meet in our reading room to discuss The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides.

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him.... -- Goodreads

A thrilling tale of love, loyalty, and espionage, based on the incredible true story of Elizabeth Bentley, a Cold War double agent spying for the Russians and the United States, from USA Today bestselling author Stephanie Marie Thornton.

The Saturday Morning Book Club will have their next meeting on Saturday, October 26 at 10:30 a.m. They'll be discussing A Most Clever Girl by Stephanie Marie Thornton.

1963: Reeling from the death of her mother and President Kennedy's assassination, Catherine Gray shows up on Elizabeth Bentley's doorstep demanding answers to the shocking mystery just uncovered about her family. What she doesn't expect is for Bentley to ensnare her in her own story of becoming a controversial World War II spy and Cold War informer...

Recruited by the American Communist Party to spy on fascists at the outbreak of World War II, a young Bentley--code name Clever Girl--finds she has an unexpected gift for espionage. But after falling desperately in love with her handler, Jacob Golos, Elizabeth makes another unexpected discovery when she learns her lover is actually a Russian spy. Together, they will build the largest Soviet spy network in America and Elizabeth will become its uncrowned Red Spy Queen. However, once the war ends and the U.S. and U.S.S.R. become embroiled in the Cold War, it is Elizabeth who will dangerously clash with the NKVD, the brutal Soviet espionage agency.

As Catherine listens to Elizabeth's harrowing tale, she empathizes with her, that is, until she uncovers startling revelations that link the two women's lives in shocking ways. Faced with the idea that her entire existence is based on a lie, Catherine realizes there can be many sides to the truth. And only Elizabeth Bentley can tell her what that truth really is. -- Goodreads

Where in the world is Flat Stanley??

He has had quite an adventure, and our library Stanley is still out there!! Stanley made it from Wallkill to Olean in upstate NY. His next stop was the Pike County Library in Petersburg, Indiana. Then on to the Ferdinand Library and the Bienville Parish Libraries in Louisiana. His next report came from Orange Grove Library in Gulfport, Mississippi. They sent him north to Britton, South Dakota... We hear he's headed to CANADA! Oh my, Stanley, don't forget your passport! We can't wait to hear what's next!

In other Stanley news, Dylan B. and Donovan N. took their travel buddies on lots of new adventures!
