Turn it Around host
ed its 3rd annual 3-on-3 B
asketball Tournament on Saturday April 8th. Seventy Charlestown residents between the ages of 9 and 18 came ou
t to the Community Center for the full day of games.
At the 9 - 13 year old games in the morning and the 14 - 18 year old competitions in the afternoon,
players demonstrated an incredible amount of talent and sportsmanship.
Players and members of the community also joined for a pre-tournament pasta dinner at the YMCA on Friday April 7th. The dinner was generously prepared and served by First Church C
harlestown.
During the pasta dinner, players heard the powerful stories of two individuals who lives have been influenced by community violence--Jose Tevenal (Tev) and Charlestown resident, Suzy Rawlinson.
After they shared their answers for the question of "how do we make Charlestown inclusive, safe, and healthy for everyone who lives, works, plays, and studies here?" on on our "We Are ALL Charlestown banner."
The thoughtful and creative answers include "I want less racism and more equality in Charlestown," "have programs to help kids handle depression," "have more activities to keep kids off the street," and "to be kind to people and to have a strong community."
UNH or the "yellow team" took the
Championship sweatshirts home for the morning games. This talented team included Hayden Groh, Quentin Dunlin, Caiden Collier, and Josh Pina.
The Knicks or "medium blue" team won the afternoon games. Players include Turn it Aroun
d member, Franklin Udeh, Ryan Yandle, Justin Alvelo, and Noah Shiner.
Huge congratulations to all who played and made the tournament and pasta dinner so much fun!
