Shelter.
Noun: a place giving temporary protection from bad weather or danger. Oxford Dictionary.
Shelter is a basic need for all of us. Protection, a nest, a sense of home in the world. A home that anchors us. A place where we can retreat, to feel grounded in order to move forward in our lives.
Now imagine not having a place to call home. Imagine the physical, financial, emotional, spiritual abuse one might feel at home. Imagine not having a loving, kind relationship to call home. Imagine the power and control used to keep you silent and at home.
If you have never experienced domestic violence, it is hard to imagine.
At Esperanza, we are committed to offering shelter, advocacy and support to those in desperate need of healing and safety. Every day, survivors find the courage to seek refuge with our shelter, a place of safety, strength, and hope.
We thank you for your compassion and commitment to ending domestic violence. Your support helps us continue the critical work of providing refuge, strength and a path forward for survivors.
Hope is ... a safe place to call home!
