Thank you for protecting the Parkway!

We were so happy to welcome guests to celebrate 20 years of protecting the Blue Ridge Parkway and honor a few of the extraordinary people who make up our Community of Stewards at Lioncrest at Biltmore on November 9.

During the evening, the Foundation recognized  individuals, groups, and companies with awards for championing our mission to preserve and protect the Blue Ridge Parkway.  They have our thanks and appreciation.

Here are the recipients:
  • Pat Shore Clark Stewardship Award: Billie Brandon Howell
  • Community Champion Award: Eurosport Asheville and Asheville BMW Riders
  • Corporate Champion Award: Indera Mills and John Willingham
  • Visionary Philanthropy Award: Anonymous Trust
  • Creative Philanthropy Awards: Eric Fitzpatrick, Wayne Henderson, and Helen White
  • Fostering New Horizons Award: Dr. Olson Huff
The Foundation is so grateful for our community and the amazing partnerships that make our work possible. Throughout the night, we heard many personal stories of amazing Parkway memories. This ribbon of road touches the hearts of so many, and we are committed to continually improving the journey for generations to come.

A special thanks to  Biltmore , the presenting sponsor of the evening.

Let's create a buzz this Giving Tuesday with our  Bee Kind to the Blue Ridge Parkway initiative! On November 28, you can boost this project to reestablish wildflower display areas along the Parkway so that bees and their pollinator friends can thrive.

Your gift will:
  • Reestablish wildflower areas originally designed into the Parkway landscape
  • Allow citizen scientists to survey populations of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators
  • Replant seeds to boost habitats and bolster native plant populations
Best of all, any gift you make up to $2,000 will be doubled by a generous anonymous donor!  You don't have to wait. Make this project take flight today.

Give your input on the proposed entrance fee increases at 17 National Parks

There are just a few days left to comment on the proposed fee increases at 17 national parks, including Shenandoah National Park. During the peak season at each park, the entrance fee would be $70 per private, non-commercial vehicle, $50 per motorcycle, and $30 per person on bike or foot. A park-specific annual pass for any of the 17 parks would be available for $75.

Road to the Past

Snow blankets the trees and the Parkway in this photo taken near Bull Gap in 1962. Weather changes quickly on the road, especially during the fall and winter. Before you set out for an adventure, be sure to check the  Real-time Closures Map  for weather and maintenance closures. You can also see weather conditions and view webcam images of key sites along the Parkway at the  Blue Ridge Parkway Weather  site.
