In my youth, the heart of dawn was in my heart, and the songs of April were in my ears.
But my soul was sad unto death, and I knew not why. Even unto this day I know not why I was sad.
But now, though I am with eventide, my heart is still veiling dawn,
And though I am with autumn, my ears still echo the songs of spring.
But my sadness has turned into awe, and I stand in the presence of life and life’s daily miracles.
The difference between my youth which was my spring, and these forty years, and they are my autumn, is the very difference that exists between flower and fruit.
A flower is forever swayed with the wind and knows not why and wherefore.
But the fruit overladen with the honey of summer, knows that it is one of life’s home-comings, as a poet when his song is sung knows sweet content,
Though life has been bitter upon his lips.
In my youth I longed for the unknown, and for the unknown I am still longing.
But in the days of my youth longing embraced necessity that knows naught of patience.
Today I long not less, but my longing is friendly with patience, and even waiting.
Kahil Gibran
As my kitchen renovation nears completion, I think of what the last five months have rendered. I love the new kitchen, and I loved its lessons in patience. Every step yielded challenges and surprises, at times overwhelming and discouraging. I learned to step back and wait until solutions emerged, move slowly, and accept the chaos in the house and microwaved meals. To listen to myself and to move forward into the next step only when something felt right. To be easy on myself when I made mistakes and something was less than perfect. Nothing went according to the schedule in my head, and yet there was a sense of a deeper flow. Wishing you peace this week.
Kim

One of my favorite festivals of the year. I love the films and it raises funds for one of my favorites organizations- Planned Parenthood. See you there.
Don’t miss out on the 10th Annual Reel Women’s Film Festival (RWFF) happening on Sunday Nov 12th from 10-5 pm at Palm Springs Cultural Center, with VIP opening reception for platinum pass holders and sponsors the night before (Nov 11) at Eight4Nine and encore online film screening the week after (Nov 13-19), For more info, visit https://rwff.festivee.com/.
With CA serving as the nearest sanctuary state for thousands of women forced to travel from AZ, TX and beyond to access abortion care services, your support of this year’s film festival — featuring films about women by women — directly benefits the sexual and reproductive care services that Planned Parenthood Pacific South West (PPPSW) provides each and every day at its 19 centers throughout Riverside, San Diego and Imperial Counties.
So please take a moment to check out our FAB line up of films and program featuring inspiring panelists and keynote speaker Heather Booth, then choose a sponsorship, film pass or donation level that works best for you @ https://rwff.festivee.com/.

Lesbians in Bed: Reading Haikus is a reflection of my journey learning to love myself while discovering what it means for me to be a queer femme lesbian. The chapters within are a mix of romance, erotica, and little lessons that lesbians can either relate to, identify with, or laugh out loud at. Basically, there’s something for everyone. Especially, the late blooming lesbians like me. Please enjoy!
