Thanks For A Great Year! Happy New Year!

THANKS FOR A GREAT 2023

Happy New Year!

We have taken 11,000 photos so far in 2023, so it’s a truly impossible task to share them all…but here’s a quick trip back through our 2023 here at Restoring Hope Transplant House. These moments, the lasting friendships and the love we feel from you all makes this the best job we could ever have.

Together, we have shared in the greatest miracles imaginable of people who would not be here today without the life-changing nature of their transplant. MELD scores of 40 with little time to live, a heart functioning at just 6%, people gasping for breath on supplemental oxygen, beating the long odds of cancer, young people who have debilitating pain so bad that they can barely leave their bed because life has become such a struggle, the irreversible effects of Type 1 diabetes and the urgency to get a pancreas transplant before it takes vision and limbs, a young lady with nausea so bad that she estimated that she would vomit 100 times a day, how dialysis steals so much of a person’s energy and life while doing whatever it takes to stay alive to a family that stayed here parts of 10 months this year while going through their own health related struggles.

These are all real life stories of people who stayed here this year. People who arrived as guests and left as family. To get them to a better place with real hope for a higher quality of life through transplantation is the greatest reward for what we do. In so many cases, there is a strong bond that lasts forever when you share these journeys with so many people. It is what makes this house so special.

We are so incredibly grateful for everyone that has had a hand in making this such a great year for Restoring Hope Transplant House. May you all be blessed with a healthy and happy New Year!

2023 YEAR IN REVIEW

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Miranda - Kidney Autotransplant

This recent message from Miranda who just returned home, made our day…she’d be great using her experiences to make the transplant journey better for future transplant families!

“Thank you for everything you've done for me! This trip wasn't easy but you really helped get me through it all. Also thank you for making sure we meet others at the house and learn about their stories. It's a whole other world I didn't know existed. From being at the house and learning more about transplants and how all of it works I have decided to change my career. Not quite sure where I want to go specifically yet but something to do with transplants.”

Our pancreas transplant recipient friend and guest Melissa has been chosen to ride on one of the transplant floats in the Rose Bowl Parade on New Years Day. From what I hear, she is scheduled to be the 12th float overall…so early in the parade that I believe starts at 10am Wisconsin time. Will be fun to cheer her on from afar! What a great honor for the perfect person to be the face of transplantation. Good luck Melissa!
