Fairfax County Park Authority Receives 2019 Gold Medal
Your continued financial and volunteer support helped make it possible for the Fairfax County Park Authority to be awarded the National Gold Medal Award for excellence in the Field of Park and Recreation Management by the National Recreation and Park Association and the American Academy of Parks and Recreation Administration.

County Leadership Congratulates Parks!



On December 3, 2019, the County Board of Supervisors took time to recognize the 574 park staff and thousands of volunteers on winning the National Gold Medal.
The national recognition helps to ensure that the active recreational and natural environmental needs of Fairfax County constituents are met!
First Hike Fairfax
Walking requires little in the way of equipment or planning or physical conditioning, but it gives you the world.

On New Years Day make plans to Hike a Fairfax County Park trail to welcome 2020. Your hike does not have to be long to experience the wonders of nature and benefits of exercise. Trails are open from dawn to dusk every day of the year.

2020 Healthy Strides Calendars
The 2020 theme encourages everyone to get active by visiting county parks . Prizes will be awarded for those participating in the scavenger hunt.

The complimentary 2020 Healthy Strides Calendar, sponsored by Inova , Cigna , Virginia Pediatric Group, Ltd. , Wheat's Landscape and the Valis Family Golf Center at Pinecrest is now available at FCPA RECenters, libraries, and District Offices of County Supervisors.

GFCA Helps Grange on 50th Anniversary
To mark its 50th Anniversary, the Great Falls Citizens Association partnered with Rossen Landscape on December 7 to plant five large White Oak trees at the Grange playground, one for each decade of service. 

The native White Oaks, can live for several hundred years, and provide food and shelter for a wide range of native fauna, including squirrels, chipmunks, deer, butterflies and other pollinators.

In addition, the Grange is one of the most historic buildings in town, built by local farmers in 1929 as a community and cultural center.

The new White Oaks, planted on , will help maintain that historic grove into the next century.

Transurban Adopts Elane
Elane, the sure-footed, silver carousel horse at Lee District park was recently adopted by 495 and 95 Express Lanes Operated by Transurban . To date, more than $180,000 has been donated to FCPF for parks and programs located near the express lanes that 'Keep You Moving!'.

Grants and charitable contributions enable the Park Authority to provide the popular Lee District Nights Summer Entertainment Series; and Chessie's BIG Backyard playground.

Year-end donations to the Park Foundation need to be made by December 31 to qualify for a 2019 tax deduction as allowed by law.

As you make your 2020 resolutions, consider adding 'Volunteer at a FCPA Park' to the top of your list. Many opportunities are available at the RECenters, golf courses, parks, nature centers and historic parks.
