Special Thanks to Our Volunteers and Sponsors Who Made Oscar Night So Much Fun!

On Sunday March 2, The Cinema Arts Centre held our annual Academy Awards Night Fundraiser. This sold-out event raised over $16,000 to support CAC programs and operations, and we had a great time!

The evening began with the red carpet show and a delicious dinner catered by Butera's Restaurant. Circle of Friends and Youth Advisory Board volunteers sold raffle tickets as guests mingled and enjoyed the food and refreshments. By 7pm, everyone had turned in their ballots for our famous ballot contest and the awards show began. During commercial breaks, we enjoyed short videos from Chef Marty and Chef Martin of Butera's. CLICK HERE! We also read trivia questions and heard remarks from sponsors and community members. Dessert was provided by Butera's Restaurant and our friends at Buttercooky Bakery and Cafe. At the end of the night, BINGO winners collected movie posters and we announced our raffle winners - our most successful raffle ever!

Our annual Academy Awards Night Fundraiser is planned and implemented by our Circle of Friends volunteers, with support from our staff and the Cinema Arts Centre's Youth Advisory Board. Thanks so much to our amazing volunteers!

Don't Forget to Register to Win the Alex Cowie Award!

We love all our members and patrons, and we love seeing all our regulars enjoying our massive slate of programming week after week, and sometimes night after night! In 2025, we have a special challenge for Cinema Arts Centre Members. Can you see more movies and attend more Cinema Arts Centre events than CAC regular Alex Cowie?

With first-run movies in our three theaters 7 days-a-week, and literally hundreds of special events each year, there is plenty of opportunity to win the 2025 Alex Cowie Award. And think of all the amazing experiences you will have in our Cinema community if you decide to go for it!

Register now. We will include screenings and events attended since 1/1/25. Results will be confirmed at the end of the year, and the one person who has attended the most screenings and events – AND more events than Alex Cowie – will win our prize package.

Rules:

• You must have a current Cinema Arts Centre Membership to be eligible

• You must REGISTER for the contest by contacting rene@cinemaartscentre.org, and agree to terms and conditions, including promotion throughout the year on our leaderboard

• You must purchase your ticket online or at the Box Office with your membership ID so your ticket can be recorded with your membership record

• Each film counts one time. We love it if you see the same film again and again, but each film counts once

• If no one attends more screenings and events than Alex Cowie, then Alex Cowie wins the award!

Prizes:

• Programmer for a Day! – Suggest three films, and we will book one of them for an evening (Monday-Thursday, depending on availability). You may host the evening, inviting up to 10 guests to attend for free. You may introduce the film to the audience. See one of your favorite films up on the big screen the way it was meant to be seen, sharing it with your own guests and our CAC audience! Includes red carpet photo opportunity, and free popcorn and soda for you and your guests. Must be redeemed by December 2026.

• Be featured in an article in our Community Newsletter

• Receive your award at our January 2026 Thanks-a-Brunch; invite up to four guests

• Our 2026 Award will be named for you!

Good luck and enjoy the movies!

Action Alert!

The current NYS FY26 budget proposal slashes arts support by 36%, threatening the vibrancy and sustainability of New York’s creative communities.

Now is the time to act. Urge your state legislators to add the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) funding at $200M to their Budget priority list.

ArtsNYS has created a simple template letter for you to customize and send directly to your legislators. The letter includes:

·   A request to include NYSCA on their Budget Priorities List (these lists are due this week!).

·   The $200M Ask for NYSCA breaks down to:

·   $150M for Aid to Localities & Agency Operations

·   $50M for the Arts & Cultural Facilities Improvement Program (ACFIP)

What you should add:

·   A brief description of how NYSCA funding benefits your work or enriches your community, such as the meaningful way that NYSCA-funded Cinema Arts Centre adds to quality of life.
