What is PTSD?
Anyone can become a victim of PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It may be a singular event, like witnessing a death, or a constant state of fear, such as being in an abusive relationship. It can be a man-made event or a survived natural disaster that continues to haunt you.
Post-traumatic stress disorder for veterans must address all of these types of issues. Soldiers have been trained to do and not think or feel. This may be why the adult suicide rate among veterans is 1.5 times higher than non-veteran adults.
If Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in veterans is not treated, it can lead to:
- Drug and Alcohol Abuse
- Severe Depression
- Marital/Family Problems
- Job Loss
- Deteriorated Physical & Mental Health
- Suicidal Thoughts/Death
