FaithWorks Breakfast

St. Martin’s kicked off the FaithWorks Campaign on April 7, 2024, with a breakfast served between the 8:30 and 11:00 services and the distribution of FaithWorks envelopes.

FaithWorks Speaker for 2024

We were pleased to welcome Nora Klemencic, Board Member of AURA (Anglican United Refugee Alliance) on May 26th for Trinity Sunday. Nora spoke about the work of AURA in general and gave us her personal reflections on how her Christian faith affects her volunteer commitment to the organization.

AURA facilitates the private sponsorship of refugees who are forced to flee their home countries and, in many cases, have to literally leave everything behind. The world is seeing a record high number of displaced people. The work of AURA is to assist refugees throughout their first year here in Canada.

Nora reminded us of the readings for Trinity Sunday and how relevant they are to the situation of refugees and our responsibility as Christians. Through her challenging work at AURA, Nora is aware of God’s presence and reminded us that especially during the FaithWorks Campaign, we have an opportunity to contribute our Time, Talent and Resources to AURA or other organizations that assist refugees.

Walk-a-thon

on the Toronto Islands

Despite the weather forecast predicting frequent rain showers, on June 2nd fifteen water resistant walkers from St. Martin’s joined up with 20+ volunteers and families from the Creative Inclusion group - part of St. Martin-in-the-Fields’ outreach program. The group of Ukrainian refugee families with children with special needs meets bi-weekly in our parish hall.

As in past years the walkers took a ferry to Hanlan’s point, walked to St. Andrew’s by-the-Lake, had a short service in the beautiful church and a picnic break (and rest for some of us) in the Church’s garden. Revived, most of us carried on to the Ward’s Island ferry and home.

One missing element from all previous walks was the treats from the wonderful ice-cream stand at the ferry dock... it had recently burned down. A good reminder that bad things do happen to all of us! We all need support.

The walkers completed their walk, not only in a rain free afternoon but with a wee bit of sunshine on Ward’s Island. Everyone enjoyed the excursion!

The walkers from the St. Martin’s group are now reminding those who pledged money for FaithWorks to complete their commitments.
