TCD E-News - December 2018
Presiding Points
As I end my term as TCD's Presiding Director, I want to thank the members of TCD and, especially my colleagues on the board, for a very productive year during which we implemented a number of new things.

Many of the new things are visible to our members -- creating the Love 60 League, extending the Ladies' League match makeup time period to three weeks, streaming the league rules, moving content to the website, mailing League Handbooks to each player and extending the Ladies roster size to 16. Some are less visible -- cleaning up our membership list to remove outdated/duplicate info and rolling out a secure online directory that allows each member to make contact information private.

We also managed to complete the fall season in spite of record rainfall that caused makeups of makeups! We are fortunate to have such dedicated team captains who provide the leadership that is critical to our success in TCD.

As a final note, I want to welcome the incoming 2019 Board of Directors, led by Jinky Hicks! View our entire 2019 board here , and select a name to email a particular board member.

On behalf of the 2018 TCD Board, I wish everyone a happy holiday season and hope to see you all back on the court in the spring.
Anne Gannon, Presiding Director

Proposed Bylaw Change

The following amendment to the TCD bylaws will be voted on at the January 2019 general meeting:
ARTICLE VII -- MEETINGS AND QUORUMS
Section 2. Meetings and QUORUMS of the board.
  • Paragraph A currently states "The board shall meet at least nine (9) times during the fiscal year."
  • Paragraph A is amended to add the following sentence: "At the discretion of the Presiding Director, video conferencing may be used."
Ladies League Survey Feedback
Ladies League Members - WE HEARD YOU in the most recent survey responses. Thank you to all who took time to weigh in on both the third set tiebreak and a more geographic approach to flighting.

  • Based on the responses, we will continue to play a full third set in the Ladies league.
  • As for geographic flighting, we are investigating this in a couple of different ways. Most exciting is that the SMU School of Engineering has met with us and is considering taking this on as a Capstone project in the spring semester for their senior students! IF we are selected as a project, the students (with the guidance of the professors and TCD Board) will evaluate this from a temporal planning standpoint, by looking at our boundaries, areas of growth within the metroplex, distances and drive times between approved facilities, flight structure, match scheduling, etc., and will present to us their observations and recommendations. We will provide updates early next year as to the status of this project.
