CCI volunteer teams assisting communities in need Winter/Spring 2025

CCI volunteer teams completed projects in three countries and three disaster impacted cities in the US, 376 volunteers from 29 universities participated in our Winter and Spring of 2025 environmental, disaster relief and human service projects! The families, small community organizations, and project partners we assisted were thrilled with the results. Our volunteers returned to campus with a stronger commitment to take action when they encounter a problem that touches their heart. Everybody wins when we work together!

Our Project Spotlights

Domestic Disaster Relief

Our teams provided support to communities affected by the hurricanes in Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia. From rebuilding homes to clearing more than two dozen massive oaks from residences and historical sites, our volunteers have exemplified resilience and compassion. Recovery will take years and CCI will continue to recruit teams until the job is done.

Puerto Rico

In Puerto Rico, our efforts have encompassed disaster relief, environmental restoration, housing resiliency, childhood education, and community-supported agriculture. We began our efforts to build a better future for Puerto Rico 14 years ago, and have been there as the island has suffereed the impact of hurricanes, earthquakes, financial crisis, and school closures. Our local partners have told us the positive energy of CCI volunteers helped keep hope alive through these challenges

Costa Rica

In Costa Rica, our volunteers are engaged in critical environmental conservation efforts ranging from reforestation initiatives to wildlife protection and sustainable farming support.

This season, our volunteers supported organic farmers, collaborated with local schools, collected marine debris from a turtle nesting beach, planted trees to support the sloth population and assisted in trail building within the BriBri indigenous community.

Guatemala

In Guatemala, our volunteers worked with high-altitude coffee farmers and local artisans on sustainable development projects.

Volunteer Testimonials

"I loved getting to know the community partners, who were very willing to chat with us. I also liked that we did what community partners thought was most important, rather than us deciding for them what was needed." - Lewis and Clark, Volunteer

"We have done two service trips with Community Collaboration International to Puerto Rico and love the experience. Each day you do different service projects, have transportation to each site, and get to try authentic Puerto Rican cuisines. The CCI team does great at making this a memorable trip for students!"

— Alex Whitmore, Assistant Director, Center for Community Engagement, Indiana State University

Penn State has been sending teams to CCI's domestic and international projects each year for the past six years. Check out the reporting below from one Penn State Campus Newspaper

Just wanted to say that I have cherished our working relationship these past years and have learned so much about myself and my work through the opportunities you and CCI have afforded us, as volunteers.

Alternative spring break trip to Puerto Rico allowed students to serve and learn

DuBOIS, Pa. - For most, the term "spring break" conjures thoughts of beautiful weather, fun locations and a good time had by all but for several students at Penn State DuBois, they'll never forget this year's spring break as they made an impact on the world.

“Alternative Spring Break has, once again, inspired me to look for more ways to volunteer and serve my own community. This was my 2nd year attending ASB, and I once again found inspiration, joy, new friends and a family I will never forget.” - Heartland Community College Volunteer

“Words cannot describe all that we have learned and experienced this past week and the friendships we have made and will always cherish. As much as we love it here and want to continue helping this country and its people, we cannot wait to come home and share all that we have observed and learned with everyone. This has really been a life-changing experience one we wish to continue as we go on with our lives.” - Michelle Brahen, CCI Guatemala Volunteer, Keene State University

"In Costa Rica I gained insight on how indigenous cultures are no different than suburbs that need parks, cities that need more coffee shops and such. They shouldn't be treated as a project that needs a brand-new makeover but something to be sustained like any other community." - University of Texas Volunteer

Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall CCI is ready to put your Volunteer Team to work on important projects in Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Domestic Disaster Relief.
