Message from Marc
This week we are celebrating our 12th birthday! So many of you have helped us get to this dozen-year celebration with your support, encouragement and donations.
We started with three employees, seed money from Oakland County Community Mental Health Authority, and worked from an office in the tornado shelter of CMH's building on the Oakland County government campus.
Today, there are nearly 90 employees, a budget of more than $12.7 million and offices in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.
Our growth has enabled us to empower thousands in securing, or keeping, safe and affordable housing.
There's Jack Dobrecki, who was institutionalized from the age of 5 to 19, who dreamed of one day owning a home he could decorate and share with a cat. That dream came true in September 2003 through our Springhill home buyer down payment assistance project. After nearly a decade of owning the home he shares with his cat Garfield, he says it still "feels great."
There's Brandon and Nadia Gross and their two sons. The family was homeless after Brandon lost his job when his health deteriorated. A few months ago, they were able to move into Palmer Pointe Townhomes in Pontiac, a multi-family mixed-income complex we built on property purchased in a tax-foreclosure sale. "Thank you for giving me and my family a place to call home," he said, with tears welling in his eyes.
There are many other individuals we have been able to assist as well including :
We've been able to bring $20.6 million to the area through Leasing Assistance Program grants, $13.3 million in HUD Section 811 funding, $5.2 million in housing tax credit allocations and more.
Please feel free to check out our website or refer others who need help in a housing crisis.
We look forward to another 12 years of being "passionate advocates, devoted to providing homes for people in need and access to resources to create sustainable communities."
So much of what we have been able to do is thanks to your support! Thank you to all our community partners, board members, donors, program participants and team members!
