Message from President Bonnie Chapman
Greetings Soroptimists!
Though we are in the throes of serious times, we all need a little laugh, so I will keep with the jokes;
I've started telling everyone about the benefits of eating dried grapes...
It's all about raisin awareness ;)
Well friends, by the time you are reading this, we will be on day 12 of life with the Camp Fire. It has been nothing short of catastrophic for our humble, peaceful and really bucolic way of life. There is a new normal developing before our very eyes. Thankfully, we are part of a group that has its purpose in rising to meet the challenge in helping others. And so we have. Thank-you to all of our members who have stepped up. We are supporting our current and former members who have suffered displacement or loss in every way possible. We are sharing information and volunteer opportunities daily. We will continue to work in the community and within our club to be agents of change and hope.
I have been moved to tears by the outreach of our sister clubs far and wide. We have received messages of encouragement, offers of assistance and cash donations. Thus far, our PayPal donation site has garnered over $15,000! In the coming weeks, I will be sharing some of the kind words and details of these correspondences. One example of the amazing charitable hearts of our fellow Soroptimists came in a message yesterday from SI Downtown Redding. As you know, Redding has barely finished putting out the Carr Fire. Nevertheless, Downtown Redding will be raising funds next week on Giving Tuesday, for us. And this my friends is why it has truly never been a better time to be a Soroptimist. This is what we have trained for in all of our years of volunteer work. I'm so proud of all of us.
The board meeting tonight will be focused on Camp Fire almost entirely. We will make some initial decisions and recommendations about spending donated funds. We will talk about projects of recovery, short and long term. We will make sure we are focused and helping our members who are suffering. It will be a heartfelt, important discussion. You are all invited and welcome tonight as you are to every board meeting. Tonight will be at Stoner and Associates CPA office (3120 Cohasset #8) at 5:30pm.
On Thursday, when my family goes around the table sharing what each person is thankful for I can say with confidence, SI Chico will be high on my list. If I don't see you, I wish you all a good holiday weekend surrounded in love.
