Dear Friends,

Thanksgiving is a time to show gratitude for all the Lord has done for us and we have so much to be thankful for. Lois and I just returned from the 50th Anniversary Convention for Open Bible Churches of Spain. We were fortunate that Margaret Smith, one of the founding missionaries of Open Bible’s work there, was able to attend. She and her husband, Don, went to Spain in the early 1970s to begin a work in a land that was difficult and where they faced many obstacles. I love hearing Margaret explain the early beginnings of the Open Bible work because she described their work (if you think of a farm) was first getting all the rocks, trees, and trash out of the field (Spain) before you could even plant. Of course, after you planted you had to take great care of nurturing the plants (souls of people) so that they could grow and mature. After 50 years we have now 18 churches filled with young people, young families and the work in Spain will continue to grow. Also our National Board of Open Bible Churches of Spain honored Drs. Nick and Leona Venditti for founding INSTE in Spain and celebrating the 40th Anniversary.

Queridos amigos,

I am grateful for our Open Bible pioneers like the Smiths, Drs. Nick and Leona Venditti, and so many others. If someone didn’t first come and break the soil for your ministry and plant the seed, it probably would not be producing fruit right now. Another example is Dr. Leona (Janzen) Venditti who had a vision to create unique theological training material that could be more accessible for everyone. Here we are 40 years later and INSTE is in 17 languages or 40 countries and has over 25,000 students worldwide. But it required a lot of effort, tears, hardship and determination. The two couples mentioned above and others we have worked with are our heroes. It is important to honor and respect our heroes of the faith because in doing so we also honor God. A simple definition for me of a hero is someone who inspires you, challenges you and someone you can imitate. Who are the heroes in your life’s journey?

Let us take the example of our heroes and continue to fight the good fight of faith so that, hopefully, we can also pave the way for the next generation to follow. I thank the Lord for all of our INSTE Regional Directors, facilitators, and students. I like this verse found in 2 Thessalonians 1:3, You need to know, friends, that thanking God over and over for you is not only a pleasure; it’s a must. We have to do it. Your faith is growing phenomenally; your love for each other is developing wonderfully. Why, it’s only right that we give thanks. (The Message).

We feel the same way we must give thanks to the Lord for all of you and our heroes who laid the path for us to follow. We pray the Lord will continue to bless all of your families and ministries.

A Grateful Heart,

The INSTE Chinese website is ready to go in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese. The website was created in mind to offer courses just as we currently do in English and Spanish to our US and Canada Chinese speaking students. It uses the same procedures for online admission and enrollment, but NOW accessible to our Chinese learning students and leaders. Check it out here!
