Hello Fall 2017 Learners Chess Parents and Friends!

As we head into our Thanksgiving Break, we wanted to thank you all for a wonderful semester of chess so far! A special huge thanks goes out to those of you who have been making sure your kids get to practice their chess playing at least twice a week outside of their club! Here is a place they can practice for free with other kids on the internet: www.chesskids.com

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday: Here are some fun " chess mazes" for your kids and/or their chess playing family members to solve. See below for more instructions on solving these fun chess mazes.

December 3rd Team and Bughouse Tournaments: If you haven't yet, please do get your kids signed up for our end of semester team chess tournament: Central NM Team Chess League Regionals 2017 and/or sign up for our State Bug House Championship here.
Both events take place on Sunday, December 3rd.
Here is a map of the regions in which each school will participate
*note, a few teams have moved to a new region this year to accommodate our growth.

And here is a list of our upcoming camps and tournaments:

Fun Chess Puzzle: Mazes!!!

These chess mazes are solved by using one white piece to navigate around in consecutive moves, only landing on safe squares that are not guarded by black pieces until that white piece reaches a square where it is giving "check" to the black king.

For example in the below chess maze, the white bishop navigates to the following squares in order:
  1. B-c6
  2. B-e8
  3. B-h6
  4. B-e2+
All of these squares are safe from the white pieces and the final square, e2, is a square from which the bishop is putting the black king (on c4) in check!

Here are 12 fun chess mazes that use bishops, rooks, and knights as the piece navigating the maze. They progress in order of difficulty. Feel free to print them out so your kids can solve on road trips and/or with other family members who know how to play chess.
