This Week at Christ Church
Faith, Hope, and Love
Annual Stewardship Campaign
Our annual stewardship drive kicks off this Sunday! This time last year we gathered together for a festive meal to celebrate the start of our campaign and we look forward to doing so again in 2021. This year, however, we will embrace our new technological skills to bring you messages of Faith, Hope, and Love from members of parish family. Watch the Sunday worship online and for postings on the parish website and Facebook page for weekly updates.

Look for your stewardship materials to arrive in your mailbox this week and tune in to this Sunday's online worship to hear an important kick-off message from Sr. Warden and Mtr. Regan!
Saturday Fireside Chat
Saturday, October 24 - 7:00 p.m.
Come join us at this week's Fireside Chat, Saturday evening, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. Zoom in for some thoughtful discussion with fellow parishioners. Remember - you'll need a passcode to enter - the Fireside Chat passcode is: fireside. This week's question:

What do the words, "love thy neighbor as yourself" mean to you?

Do you have a topic you'd like to discuss? Join us at the fireside with your thoughts!

New Christ Church Bible Study
All are welcome!
The Sunday Lectionary covers only a small portion of the Bible. The goal of the new Christ Church Bible Study is to read and discuss the entire Bible in an all-inclusive, small group setting. Eager for the rest of the story?  Please join us each Tuesday evening from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.!
We'll begin Tuesday, October 27th

The first set of readings, which we will discuss at our first meeting, is Genesis chapters 1-7, and Psalm 1. We recommend using a study Bible, and we welcome various translations. Each has its own special insights.

Meetings will begin with a Collect and a reading of the assigned Psalm. The bulk of the time will be an open discussion, prompted by study questions from various Bibles, book and chapter introductions, published commentary, and most importantly, your thoughts. Read more....
All Saints Day
Dia de los Muertos
Christ Church will be honoring Dia de los Muertos as part of our All Saints Day celebration this year. Sunday, November 1st, there will be a traditional Dia de los Muertos altar set in the Memorial Garden. A traditional altar usually includes pictures of the departed, candles, marigolds, pan de muerto, and many other items. We would like to invite you to bring in photographs of your departed loved ones to include on the altar. Pictures should be 4 x 6, or smaller, and be in a frame.
All pictures should be brought to the Christ Church office no later than Thursday, October 29th at 2:00 p.m. You can visit the altar between 9:00 a.m. and noon on Sunday, November 1st. Please practice social distancing and wait in the courtyard if another family group is in visiting the altar.

If you would prefer to send in a photo for an online memorial slide show...Read more that Sunday click the button and send your photo to the parish office along with the name of your loved one. All online photos must be received by Wednesday afternoon, October 28 @ 4:00 p.m.

The in-person service that Sunday, has a family focus. Please be respectful of those that are worshiping at 10:00 a.m., if you choose to visit at that time.

Family First Sunday
Dia de los Muertos
Everyone is invited to join Charlette on the lawn on Sunday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m. for Family First Sunday. This month's offering falls on All Saints Day! In addition to celebrating this important feast day, there will also be a Dia de los Muertos altar set in the memorial garden. Families are invited to spend a few minutes at the altar either before or after the service.

After the service there will be a gratitude scavenger hunt; a perfect kick-off to a 30-day Gratitude Challenge! Watch for more information on this in the weeks ahead. We will be on the lawn under the trees. Members of the same household are allowed to sit together. Please keep six feet of physical distance from other groups. Please wear your mask and bring your own blanket or beach chair.

If you prefer to worship online, our regularly schedule online service will be available at 10:00 a.m. on YouTube and Facebook.
Service and Outreach
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Through November 6
Thank you to all of the parishioners and CCDS students who have already brought in their Thanksgiving food bags. Each complete bag brings us closer to our goal of 150. Each and every bag will be a blessing to a family in need - more families than ever this year. There are two ways to help:

1.) Buy all of the items on the list below and return your filled bag to church, the parish office, or the Thrift Shop garage on Wednesdays between 10:00-11:00 a.m.:
  • 2 cans of vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans, etc.)
  • 1 can of cranberry sauce
  • 1 box of mashed potatoes
  • 1 can or packet of gravy
  • 1 box of cornbread mix
  • 1 box of stuffing
  • 1 dessert mix
2.) Donate monetarily so we can purchase all the fixin’s and pack a bag for you.

Donation deadlines are:
  • October 31 for $$ donations
  • November 6 for food bags
Attitude of Gratitude!
What are you thankful for this year?
As part of our annual Thanksgiving Food drive, we are also modeling an attitude of gratitude! What are you thankful for this year? Snap a picture of yourself with your bag of Thanksgiving food for the drive, post it to social media and use the hashtag #givethanks. Don't forget to tag @nadochristchurch on Instagram and @christchurchcoronado on FaceBook. You can add a comment about what you're thankful for this year. If you're not on social media, just send your photo and comment to Charlette or Christie and they can post it for you.
Thanksgiving Pie Sale
It's been a challenging year, but we still have so much to be thankful for. This year's Father’s Day pie sale to benefit Vida Joven was such a smashing success, we thought we’d offer a Thanksgiving version! We will be selling homemade pumpkin, pecan, and apple pies for $30 each to enjoy with your Thanksgiving feast, and we need your help! If you’d like to bake a pie (or two!), sign up with Sarah Shealy We will be signing up bakers through November 6.

From November 8-22, parishioners will be able to place their orders for pies! Read more...

Photos for Realm
Mtr. Regan will be here soon!
Mtr. Regan will be arriving soon and we want to help her become acquainted with the parish family. Being unable to meet face-to-face makes this even more challenging. Since we will not be able to snap a photo of you for our Realm database we've asking that you do it for us. It is more important than ever to:
  1. Create your log-in for Realm to make sure that all of your data is up to date - click "Register Now"
  2. Insert a recent photo of you and your family members. OR send your photos to Christie Tugend and she'll make sure they are upload to Realm

If you have questions about creating your Realm login, Christie can also answer those questions for you.
Your Annual Pledge
We're still here....
Despite the fact that the church building has remained empty of worshippers since March, the life of the church has carried on non-stop. Your on-going support of Christ Church has enabled that work to continue.

As we enter the final quarter of 2020 and the 2021 stewardship campaign is beginning you might wonder, "Where do I stand on this year's giving?" Goodness knows, this year, it's sometimes hard to remember even what day it is!

If you're not sure of your year-to-date donations simply contact Christie Tugend and she can email you a statement right away. Also, if you find that keeping up with your estimated giving for 2020 has been difficult, please let us know. Remember, your annual "pledge" is your best "estimate" of what you will be able to contribute to the mission and ministries of Christ Church in any given year.
The Diocese and Beyond
Novena of Prayer for the Election
Asking God for Courage and Wisdom
Please join the Bishop and the Diocese in nine days of intentional prayer for our nation as we approach the election. Our Novena is based on the work offered by Forward Movement and will begin on October 27 and continue through November 4.

Each evening there will be an English-speaking service at 7:00 p.m. and a Spanish-speaking service at 7:30 p.m. Congregations around the Diocese have volunteered to host each evening’s offering. In addition to the prayers, there will be a scripture passage and music (in most cases). Each congregation will be creating their prayer service as the Spirit moves them.

These will be available on the Diocesan Facebook page and on their YouTube channel.

Holding on to Hope
All Saints Day - November 1
Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will lead a live-streamed prayer service from Washington National Cathedral, Holding on to Hope: A National Service for Healing and Wholeness, on All Saints Sunday, November 1, at 1:00-2:30 p.m. PST. In the midst of pandemic, racial reckoning, and a historic election, the live-streamed service will gather Americans for prayer, song, lament, hope, and a call to love God and neighbor.

The service will feature an ecumenical and multifaith array of voices, musical offerings, and prayers. Using a combination of live and visually stunning pre-recorded elements gathered from across the nation, the service will be live streamed in English and Spanish.

“The Washington National Cathedral has gathered Americans for prayer at the death of presidents, after terrible tragedies like 9/11, and in moments of joy and hope for our nation and our world,” says Bishop Curry...Read more
