A letter of thanks to the parish from Fr Joseph Meagher:

Dec 17, 2022

Praise be Jesus Christ, Lord of the Harvest!

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus,

Another wonderful Thanksgiving Harvest celebration just took place, and again, I am reminded of the blessing that this parish is to me and to so many people. In spite of the burden of building repairs and the challenges
(and blessings) of being in the inner city, I have a deep sense of God’s favor. I am grateful to God and to you for your generous prayers, labors and sacrificial giving on behalf of this parish community. The many wonderful and life changing events that happen here could not take place without your constant support.

The 2022 Thanksgiving Harvest Celebration and fundraiser this past Sunday was a most delightful and enjoyable gathering. More than any other time before, this year’s harvest celebration was an “in house” event. From the publicity and decorations, the DJ, and emcees, the delicious multicultural buffet, the children’s performance and dance, all the fun games and raffles, to the line dancing, it was all St A’s parishioners who made it happen. Well done!

It was not easy to have the celebration so late in the year, but by God’s grace, we pulled it off.
Thank you to all who gave very generously of your time, your talent and your treasure

Thank you to the 2022 Thanksgiving Harvest Team, headed by Jude Anemelu.

But most of all, let us thank our Lord for continuing to sustain the mission of this parish. This is all God’s work!

Thus far this is what has been raised and pledged:
Funds raised           $48,994.00
Pledges made     $8,516.00
Total                     $57,510.00

As in previous years, 70% of our Thanksgiving Harvest funds will go toward those vital infrastructure projects (i.e. Church electrical, HVAC & Roofs), 20% will be for general building maintenance and repairs and 10% will be used exclusively to help those in need.

Most immediately, the funds raised will help us complete the new HVAC in the lower church and both of the main church sacristies (Alleluia! No more frozen pipes!)
Praise God!!!

May the Lord continue to bless us and give us an abundance of every grace, manifest in our readiness to love one another, to welcome the stranger and always seek that which is for the greatest glory of God and the salvation of souls, beginning with our own. Nothing matters more!

We have only one week to prepare for the coming of the One who became a vulnerable little baby for us, for our redemption. May we quickly put aside all of our worldly preoccupations and follow His example by humbling ourselves before Him and before one another so that the Holy Family and Baby Jesus Himself, may not be turned away by us, but welcomed into our hearts and into our homes this Christmas and throughout the New Year and beyond.

In Jesus thru Mary and St Joseph,

Fr Joseph

PS. In gratitude to you, I will offer a Novena of 9 Masses for you and your family intentions beginning with the New Year’s Eve Mass at 10pm on Saturday, December 31st.
You may send us any particular intentions you have for those Masses to SaintAntoninusChurch@gmail.com and they will be placed upon the altar.

Thanksgiving Harvest 2022 came late in the year, and in some ways, we did not know what to expect. But as usual, the Lord made a way, and what a totally enjoyable and Spirit-filled gathering it was! Thanks be to God, the Lord of the Harvest!

The day began with the glorious celebration of the Eucharist. Our Mass was celebrated by Fr Joseph Meagher and concelebrated by Fr Solomon Ngwumezie, Fr Anthony Abalike, Fr Stephen Aribe and Fr Louis Aumaitre, with Deacon Emeruwa Anyanwu as deacon at Mass.

During the Presentation of the Gifts we had our Parade of Nations. Parishioners came before the altar bearing our flags and our hearts to offer ourselves, our families and our home countries in thanksgiving to the Lord of the Harvest. (Continue below)

Just before the Mass ended, in the spirit of thanksgiving for all the Lord's blessings on our parish, the St. Antoninus Service Awards were presented by Fr Joseph to Paul Werner (45 years of service) and Dr. Kanayo Ikemi (28 years of service). A third recipient, Rosenta de Verteuil (22 years of service,) who was not available to receive her award, will be awarded at another time.
Following Holy Mass was the Harvest Bazaar in the church hall, which opened with a prayer led by Fr Joseph.

Emcees Emmanuel Ngwu & Jude Anemelu started the program with the ceremonial presentation of the kola nut, symbol of the harvest offering of "peace, unity, reconciliation, integrity, life, fraternity, hospitality, goodwill and kindness." Fr Marcellinus Uwandu prayed over the offering in the traditional Igbo language.

Thus began the launching of the Harvest with parishioners and guests breaking the kola nuts or cutting the apples to signify their thanksgiving contributions.

Now came time for game and raffles! Don Carlson, our lively game emcee and moderator, opened the floor for with 3 big prizes, a 50-inch Samsung smart TV, a Shark vacuum cleaner and a Cuisinart Air Fryer Oven . The games were "Balloon Pop" (pop the balloons to see if you have the winning raffle number), Quiz Show ( trivia questions, mainly about St Antoninus) and a gift box raffle (with the grand winning number taped inside the box).

Below. Temilola Akinwuntan, the winner of the quiz show.

Below, our children's heart-felt presentation: "Let My People Go". There was also a wonderful dance by our teens . (unfortunately, there is no available photo).

The fun & games continued with our Auction Bazaar . The most exciting part was when Sr Armelle's handmade icon painting was being auctioned. Watch Dianne Pascall winning the auction.
The brief video below captures the joy of what our Thanksgiving Harvest 2022 was all about.

The joys of Line Dancing!
