Dear San Marino Unified Community,
As we prepare to gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who makes San Marino Unified School District a truly remarkable place.
This year, we have much to celebrate and be thankful for. The recent passage of Measure M reflects the shared commitment of our community to provide the much needed resources needed to modernize and repair our facilities and support our students’ success. Thank you to our visionary Board of Education for their steadfast leadership and dedication in guiding us toward a brighter future.
Our District’s accomplishments this year have been extraordinary. San Marino Unified is the top-performing unified school district in California, based on our CAASPP ELA and Math scores. The high school achieved Platinum Status from the College Board, with an outstanding 93% pass rate on AP exams. Additionally, the high school earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School award, a testament to the excellence of our administrators, educators, students, parents, and community.
These achievements would not be possible without our incredible team of highly qualified and compassionate teachers, counselors, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, classified staff, and administrators who work tirelessly to support our students. I am also grateful for our wonderful PTAs and community partners, whose dedication and engagement enrich our schools. Without our generous and hardworking parents, who ensure our students have the tools and resources they need to succeed, we would not be nearly as accomplished as we are today; and, of course, our amazing students, whose curiosity, resilience, and drive inspire us all.
As the author William Arthur Ward wisely said, “Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” This sentiment rings true in our District, where a shared spirit of gratitude fuels our collective success and strengthens our resolve to provide the absolute best for our students.
I am deeply humbled and exceedingly thankful to serve as Superintendent in a community that values education and is committed to ensuring that every student develops, grows, explores, and learns in a nurturing yet challenging environment. We deeply appreciate the partnership we share with our parents and grandparents, whose unwavering support ensures that every student in San Marino receives a world-class education.
Together, we are cultivating highly responsible, independent, and adaptable global citizens who are well-prepared to shape the future. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful, restful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving.
Warm regards,
Linda de la Torre, Ed.D.
