No one ever knows what will happen tomorrow. While we typically give thanks in November and specifically on Thanksgiving Day, I believe it’s important to give thanks daily for every blessing.

It’s equally important to reach out and lend a helping hand when possible.

How does this apply to organizing?

You are better able to help someone else when you are in control.

One of the very best reasons to organize anything is that the process puts you in control and reduces stress.

Stress, as I’m sure you’ve read or heard, is one of the leading causes of illness.

So, let’s get organized, a little bit at a time, so we can enjoy all the upcoming holidays beginning with Thanksgiving.

Think about what you want to do, how you want to be involved, and what you want to prepare in advance.

Make your travel plans:

  • If you are driving, plan your route and when you will leave
  • If you have not already, make your plane reservations ASAP
  • If you want a new holiday outfit, plan your shopping (not the day before you leave!)

Now let’s think about Thanksgiving Day.

If you are going to someone’s home for the Thanksgiving meal, ask the host what you can either bring or do to help with the meal.

If you are hosting Thanksgiving, plan the meal, and decide what you would like your guests to contribute so that when they ask you will know what to say.

If you are on your own, how do you want to spend the day?

  • Do you want to volunteer at a shelter?
  • If so, you need to contact them in advance.
  • Do you want to take yourself to a restaurant? Make a reservation now so you get the reservation you want.

Last minute details.

  • Plan when to pick up flowers for your table or the perishable items for your meal
  • Set your table the day before
  • If you’re having guests for the weekend, put sheets on the guest bed & get out towels
  • If you will be a guest, pick up a small gift for your host

If getting organized for Thanksgiving is on your list of things you want to do, email Diane to set up time to work.

Remember, you have the option of scheduling a one-hour virtual organizing session.
