802 Notes
The electronic newsletter of Local 802

Happy Thanksgiving from Local 802! If you're spending time with friends and family this week, there's probably something that everyone will be discussing (or not discussing!) -- the 2016 election results. If this prospect is causing you stress, there is free counseling for musicians, sponsored by the Actors Fund, which is open to all musicians.

If you'd like a safe space to talk about the election results with other Local 802 members as well as help us brainstorm strategy, come to the December 2 membership meeting at Local 802.

Please share with us your impressions of the election results and how you're doing. We may contact you to see if we can publish your thoughts in Allegro.

If you're flying on Thanksgiving with your instrument, here is the AFM's page on how to travel with your instrument.

Finally, please remember those who don't have enough to eat. Bring in donations of non-perishable food to the Local 802 lobby between now and Jan. 13. Click here for more information.

Have a safe, happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday!
Support the Music Production Tax
Credit! The governor has until Nov. 28 t o sign the bill into law, and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Call the governor's office today, tell them who you are, where you live, and that you think that the Music Production Tax Credit (bill #A10083-b) will help the recording industry expand by encouraging more productions to be recorded here in NY state, which will employ more musicians! Please call (518) 474-8390.
 GUITAR CENTER WORKERS STILL
 FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE
As you start to think about shopping for the holidays, please remember that workers at the Guitar Center are still fighting for justice.

"Guitar Center launched an aggressive union busting campaign, hiring anti-union firms to prevent more of our co-workers from organizing and making our lives difficult in the store. As a member of the bargaining committee, I witnessed firsthand how the company dragged out negotiations for years," writes Anim Arnold (pictured at left) in his op-ed in Local 802's Allegro magazine. UPDATE: The NLRB has just found the company guilty of illegal union busting, bad faith negotiating and many other charges. Click here to add your name to the Guitar Center workers' alliance and stay posted posted on developments in the campaign.
