Slim People,

The Mafia has come up with a new app to collect their loan shark debts.

It's called Pay-Up-Pal.

Slim Folks,

Thanks for kicking the I Got You Babe Kickstarter campaign in the caboose! You Slim Guys and Gals done me proud.

We hit our goal in the first 10 days. And then some!

I can't wait for you to dig into I Got You Babe. It's a novel. It's a soundtrack.

The paperback is a funny, breezy read. The Slimited Edition pink vinyl soundtrack is kinda groovy. And the CDs sound...Slimsational.

Everything is wrapped up, packed up, and on its way to Slim's Shady Trailer Park.

As soon as I get 'em, I'll track down our Head of Shipping, Anita Lickenschtamp, and we'll start shipping.

We'll keep you posted!

And if you've been getting up at 3 AM worrying if it's too late to make a pledge, worry no more!

You can still kick in.

AND NOW FOR THE REAL

NEW REAL NEWS FROM

SLIM'S SHADY TRAILER PARK

A couple months ago, my true blue amico Peter asked me and Howie to play at his BIG Birthday Bash in Sicily. Peter lives in Baltimore, but his peeps are from Sicilia.

And you can't deny a request from a Sicilian on his birthday. It could be lethal!

The last week of September, I left Palm Springs, caught a plane to San Francisco, and then?

A 12-hour flight to Rome. Twelve hours!

After a quick flight to Palermo, I picked up my luggage and took a taxi to the Airbnb.

I should have brought my football helmet because that mad dash through the winding streets of Palermo was one swervy curvy, herky jerky demolition derby.

Horns were honking, drivers were hollering, and nobody seemed to be paying attention to lanes or lights or speed limits.

When the driver finally dropped me off, I understood why there are so many churches in Sicily.

I arrived at the Airbnb and discovered it was on the fourth floor. The elevator never arrived, so I took the stairs. My suitcase weighed exactly 46 pounds, according to the scales when I checked in at the Italian airline, Genitalia.

After four flights (63 stairs!), I was breathing so hard I thought I might need a respirator. Or a priest. I unpacked and went to bed...and slept for 10 hours.

The next morning, the sun was shining, and it was glorioso. Howie—bongo boy in the Slim Man Band—arrived from Baltimore with his lovely daughter, Lex. They went upstairs and immediately went to sleep.

I strolled around Palermo for a few hours. I wanted to check out the Teatro Massimo, an old opera house across the street from the party.

Molto impressionante!

At the end of The Godfather III, Sofia Coppola gets gunned down on the steps of the Teatro. But there was no gunplay that afternoon.

Just Uncle Slimmy, doing a little recon!

When I got back, it was time to rouse the troops.

I got into the shower stall which was about the size of an MRI tube. Claustrophobic! But the water pressure?

GREAT!

So great that the handheld shower head—which was attached to a pipe—suddenly swiveled straight up. Water was spraying full force everywhere, like a runaway fire hose.

The walls. The ceiling. The mirror. Everything was getting doused.

I reached for the handle to turn off the water, and it came off in my hand! True story.

I finally maneuvered it back into place, turned off the water, and decided to try again in Howie's shower.

PARTY TIME!

Howie, Lex and I strolled the narrow, crowded cobblestone streets; cafes and souvenir stands on each side.

We took a small elevator to the rooftop restaurant, Doba, for the party—the first of two.

This one was for Peter's American cousins and friends. The view was stunning. I snapped a photo of Lex and Howie.

Howie and I were ready to perform, but there were some minor complications: permits, bureaucratic problems, local Mafia approval.

Apparently, nobody had cleared this gig with Charlie the Chin, so we never got a chance to do our Rat Pack Show that night.

Ain't that a kick in the head!

But the party was fabuloso. The food was delizioso. And Peter was molto felice.

The next evening, Howie, Lex and I walked up the main drag which was packed with people and scooters. The scooters were weaving in and out between groups of folks enjoying an evening stroll.

Howie remarked that it was amazing nobody got clobbered by a veering Vespa. And then...

BANG!

A woman got knocked down by a guy on a scooter. She got up, and there was a huge argument. I thought she might call the police. Or an attorney.

Or Vito Corleone.

But no. They yelled at each other for a while and then went their separate ways.

We decided to walk—very carefully—in the opposite direction. Eventually, we ended up by the sea.

And that's when the magic happened.

The full moon was rising, and the waves were gently washing onto the shore. Che bella!

We strolled along the shoreline and started hearing music. A young man was playing a Steinway grand piano right on the beach.

True story.

A couple hundred people were listening to him play Chopin and Schumann under the full moon.

It was magical, Slim People.

The next night, Peter had a second party at Doba—this one for his Italian cousins. I was determined to sing.

I had traveled all this way, and I wasn't about to let some local mafiosi pull the plug. Unless they pulled a gun!

Even if they did, it might be good publicity...

An hour before the party, I found a streetside electronics store and bought a portable speaker the size of a large thermos. Then I spotted a tambourine in a souvenir shop with a map of Sicilia drawn across the drum head.

How lucky can one guy be?

I dashed back to the Airbnb, grabbed my computer, and the three of us strolled back for Party Number Two.

We climbed the stairs single file: me with the boombox on my shoulder, Howie behind me playing the Sicilian tambourine, and Lex carrying the computer, cueing the backing tracks.

We started with The Way You Look Tonight. As we paraded through the Italian cuginos, a full red moon began rising over the sea.

We sang a bunch of Rat Pack Songs and Sammy the Schnozz didn't open fire. Everybody seemed to love the music. And the food. And the view!

After the show, Peter gave an elegant and eloquent speech thanking everyone for coming. When he finished, fireworks suddenly started exploding in the distance, over the sea, under the full moon, as if someone had planned the whole thing perfectly.

But they hadn't. It was pure coincidence.

When the fireworks ended, I sang That's Amore. And everybody sang along.

When the moon hits your eye...

Like a big pizza pie...

That's amore!

The next morning, the Triumphant Trio headed for Rome.

Let the next adventure begin! Stay tuned.

It's all about amore, Slim People.

Who loves ya?

Uncle Slimmy

PS: Last night I made my soon-to-be world famous lemon and Limoncello sauce. But instead of shrimp, I put it over baked salmon, topped it with fresh thyme, and she was a-so nice!
