The new turf field at San Marino High School is complete and ready for students and athletics.


San Marino High School’s brand-new turf was carefully installed this summer and includes markings to accommodate multiple sports, including girls’ flag football. Featuring signature Titan Blue, the field is ready to welcome students, athletes, families, and fans for Friday Night Lights and much more.

The track portion of the Early Impact Project has been rescheduled for winter break due to material delays. Rather than begin demolition and potentially disrupt fall athletics and physical education, the District decided to keep the existing track available throughout the fall semester.

In the meantime, necessary repairs will be made to help ensure the track remains safe and accessible for students and the community until the replacement work begins.

Temporary classrooms prepare us for what’s ahead

If you or your student stepped onto the campuses of Valentine Elementary or San Marino High School this week, you may have noticed new portable classrooms. These are temporary learning spaces installed in preparation for larger, long-term Measure M projects.

By putting these classrooms in place now, SMUSD is planning ahead to help minimize disruptions to teaching and learning when future construction begins.

At Valentine Elementary School, three temporary classrooms and a restroom facility have been installed on the back blacktop.

At San Marino High School, the five temporary classrooms are visible from Huntington Drive. Gates and fencing have been installed around the area to maintain a safe and secure campus environment and minimize disruptions to nearby classrooms.

San Marino High School staff are also working on parking adjustments related to the temporary classrooms. Families should continue to check ParentSquare for the latest campus-specific updates.

Looking ahead: Larger Measure M projects

The Early Impact Projects are only the beginning.

As part of the Facilities Master Plan, SMUSD identified additional improvements at Carver Elementary, Valentine Elementary, and San Marino High School based on campus needs and community priorities.

These larger projects are nearing the end of the schematic design phase. During this stage, the District is collaborating with architects to ensure that proposed designs fit within each campus, remain aligned with budget considerations, and support the goals established in the Facilities Master Plan.

As designs and plans are further developed, we will continue sharing updates with the broader San Marino community. The Board of Education also plans to hold a Measure M Study Session on Tuesday, September 8, providing another opportunity to learn more about the Measure M Bond program and upcoming projects.

We look forward to continuing to share Measure M progress with our community as these projects move from plans on paper to improvements our students can see, use, and enjoy.

While not funded through Measure M, Huntington Middle School also received a few campus improvements this summer as part of the District’s ongoing commitment to maintaining safe, welcoming, and functional learning environments.

Following Board approval, lockers at HMS were removed to create additional hallway space and improve student circulation and safety between classes. Hallway walls were repainted, and doors will also receive a fresh coat of paint featuring the school’s iconic red.

The HMS blacktop was also resurfaced this summer.

No Measure M Bond Program funds were used for these projects.

You may soon notice extra activity around the Michael White Adobe on the San Marino High School campus. Preservation work is set to begin to help protect and preserve the local landmark. This project is not a part of the Measure M Bond Program and no District budget funds are being used. 

The independent nonprofit organization, Friends of the Michael White Adobe (FoMWA), is funding the project through private philanthropy, preservation grants, and community donations. One of only 38 remaining 19th-century adobes in Los Angeles County, the Michael White Adobe is incorporated into the District’s elementary curriculum and serves as an important historical resource for both students and the broader community. 

The District appreciates its continued partnership with FoMWA and their commitment to preserving this important piece of San Marino’s history. FoMWA will share additional information on its website (michaelwhiteadobe.com) about the preservation project and opportunities for community involvement in the near future.
