Winter break project progress

While students and families enjoyed a well-deserved winter break, important impact projects got underway.

Concession bathrooms at SMHS

The bathrooms near the concession area now feature Titan Blue branding and have been thoughtfully updated to provide a cleaner, more modern and welcoming space for students, families, and visitors.

Roof replacement at HMS

Before the December rainstorm, the team completed roof repairs on three portable classrooms at Huntington Middle School, preventing additional flooding and supporting safe, uninterrupted learning in these high-need areas.

Fence replacement at SMHS

To enhance safety and improve the overall campus environment, the chain-link fence is being replaced with iron fencing and gates featuring automatic openings and added cameras, supporting a safer experience for staff and students.

Projects ahead

While larger projects remain in the design phase, we are excited to share a preview of what’s ahead in the coming months:

  • Elementary school playground designs. At the Jan. 13 Board of Education meeting, example design concepts were shared to modernize and upgrade playgrounds at Carver and Valentine Elementary Schools. Next steps include gathering input from our students, the users themselves, on which designs they like best. Playground construction is planned to begin during the summer months.
  • High school track and turf replacement: The Board of Education has approved the contractor who will partner with the district to replace the track and turf at San Marino High School, marking an important step forward in this long-anticipated project.
  • CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act) Survey: Because some sites may hold historical significance, a CEQA survey of school grounds and buildings is underway. This process helps ensure that any future construction is planned thoughtfully and in compliance with state requirements.
  • CTE modernization: The Measure M team is exploring options to modernize the Career Technical Education (CTE) area at San Marino High School. Concepts under consideration include a new two-story building and relocating the Career Center to the Library.
  • Building expansion at Carver and Valentine: As enrollment continues to grow at both elementary schools, the district has met with teachers at Carver and Valentine to better understand classroom needs and gather ideas for effective learning spaces. Design concepts and potential locations are currently in development.
