Mission Statement

Our Vision Friends and neighbors joyfully sharing and living the Gospel and the transforming love of Jesus Christ through our Parish Family

Our Mission To invite and welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life to embrace and celebrate our vocations.  "To be Christ to the world.”

But the seed sown on rich soil

is the one who hears the word and understands it,

who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.

~Matthew 13

From Our Pastor

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

In this weekend's Gospel we hear of Jesus who tells a parable to the crowds about the Sower and the seed. Like planting a garden or sowing seeds in a field, sometimes good results are hard to achieve. The same efforts are needed for growing the seeds of the Gospel.

Jesus is later asked by his disciples to explain this parable to them. He says, "The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word, and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.”

When it comes to our faith journey and our relationship with Christ, have we ever considered what sort of soil we are planted in? What are the pressures we experience to abandon our faith from popular culture or even from a member of our family?

Another important consideration comes from nourishing our faith with regular attendance at Mass and bringing our children along so that the seeds of faith can grow in them.

Like any successful garden, growing takes time, effort, and God's help!

May God bless you!

Fr. Gonyo

Greetings!

This past week, we had the pleasure of hosting Vacation Bible School at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Parish at Christ the King. While a time of great fun, it was also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of catechesis for the families of our Parish.

One of the most crucial responsibilities we have is passing down the faith to younger generations. We live in a time where that is not always an easy task. In the Gospel this weekend, we hear the parable of the sower. As adults in the church it’s vital that we understand our job to plant the seeds of faith in our children. It is hard to find soil richer to receive the seeds of faith than the hearts of children. While it is important that children attend religious education here at Saint Kateri, the majority of their formation in the faith happens outside of the classroom. It comes from the witness of their parents and those that live at home with them. In what ways can we do this practically? First, we must be living disciples of Jesus Christ in our everyday lives. I cannot show my faith to others without first believing it myself. We must be fully convinced that all which is written in scripture is true; Jesus truly died for me and truly rose from the dead. If this is really true, then I have no reason not to hope in His promise of eternal life with God. This means I ought to be confident in His great love for me every day, despite the trials. Believing this means that we see life through a totally different lens. Jesus has defeated sin and death, He is not worried or anxious right now, so I have no need to be either. To all whom we encounter or live with, we ought to proclaim the core Gospel message by the way we live our lives. In the good times and the bad, we should always praise and thank God for all He has done for us.

It also comes through practicing the virtues and recognizing that every encounter with another person is an opportunity to be a conduit of the Holy Spirit to them. The cross is the instrument in which Jesus perfectly gave infinite glory to the Father, and it is our participation in the Eucharist that enables us to do the same. Be a witness in the way you ready your heart to receive the Eucharist. I encourage you to grow in your relationship with our Lord and to say prayers together as a family, such as praying before meals or saying the rosary together. For those looking for an audio/ visual way to grow in their personal ownership of the Gospel message as a family, I highly recommend you check out https://watch.actsxxix.org/therescueproject

and watch The Rescue Project as a family.

Finally, connect with other families at the parish. Together at Saint Kateri Parish, we can rescue, renew, and transform the human family into the family of God.

God bless,

Anthony Nicolosi
