Dear Parishioners and Friends,

In Matthew 13 of this weekend's Gospel, Jesus gives three parables describing the Kingdom of Heaven. The first is about the parable of the wheat and weeds sown together in the field, the second is about the parable of the mustard seed that sprouts into a giant bush providing shelter to the birds of the sky. The third parable is about the yeast that is mixed into the dough, making the entire batch rise.  

Whether seeds or yeast, the effect of change is pronounced and noticed. The Kingdom of God is also ever evolving and never remains stationary. We are called to stay alert and say yes to the will and action of God in our lives.

This Tuesday evening the Irondequoit Concert Chorale will be performing at Christ the King Church in the back parking lot, weather permitting, or in the gym if there is inclement

weather.

Greetings!

This week I invite you to ponder what it means for you and I to be adopted sons and daughters of God. Our Father loves and delights in us more than 

we can comprehend! He does not love us based on what we do for Him, but by virtue of who we are. We belong to Him; we are His family. Even knowing 

all of this to be true, we might still be tempted to think that we are not good enough. We know our own faults; they are clear to us. At the same time,

some of us believe that God will not love us until we are perfect. This could not be further from the truth! We need to fight against this perfectionism in

our lives. Jesus sows the seeds of faith in us at our baptism; He desires us to produce good fruit but sometimes weeds will grow as well.

The good news is that God does not wait until all of the weeds are gone before performing miracles in us. Some of us may have neglected the garden of our souls more than others, we may have weeds sprouting and be at a low point. The worst thing we can do is give up when we see the weeds sprout in

our hearts. 

Bring your heart back to Jesus, go to confession, strive to do good. Have mercy on yourself and on others. It is God who infinitely loves us regardless of what we have done, and we need to love Him and others back with that same infinite love. Do not be discouraged by trials and temptations. Jesus wants us to carry the cross, not solve the cross. When you fall, get back up just as He did. Trust in the love He originally planted in your heart.

Jesus never abandons or neglects you despite the weeds that grow in our lives and the weeds do not make Him love you any less. Reflect on the psalm today which reminds us of God’s goodness and mercy. Encountering His personal love for our messy lives is what will transform us and help us to transform the lives of others.

Faith Formation:

(Religious Education for children enrolled in Public School)

*For children in Pre-K through Grade 7, this program is offered during the school year, September - May. We partner with parents and guardians in supporting and continuing their child’s faith journey. This program consists of monthly meetings and extra faith-filled activities.

First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion:

For children in Grade 2 and over, to help them prepare to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Celebration of First Reconciliation is in

the fall and First Holy Communion is celebrated

parish-wide in May.
