Dear Parishioners and Friends,

While we celebrate the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time this weekend, it is important to note that the feast of the Apostle Saint James falls on Saturday, July 25th, and on Sunday, Saints Joachim and Anne, the grandparents of Jesus.

Let us ask for God's richest blessings on our grandparents, both living and deceased!

With the start of August next weekend, we estimate to be spending about 85 thousand dollars for maintenance and repairs in order to get ready for fall season:  

At Christ the King Church, we will be repairing the roof and ceilings in both the church and gym. We will also be filling potholes in the parking lot. 

At Saint Margaret Mary Church, we will be replacing a rotted garage door as well as replacing a badly leaking mid-section of the roof between the church and rectory. The interior wall needs repair and painting and we need to install a new stainless steel boiler vacuum feed tank to replace the old one which is currently leaking. All of these repairs must be done before the winter season.

I am so grateful to our Saint Kateri Building and Grounds committee for their guidance and input and to all of you who so generously support our Parish.

Greetings!

The gospel this weekend presents a very familiar parable to us. Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and then sold all he had to buy that field. How can this parable about God’s kingdom relate to our own lives?

In this parable it appears that the treasure was discovered almost by accident. It was unexpected and by chance that a man found this treasure. This can be true for our lives as well. We often encounter the treasure of the Gospel without even looking for it.

There are many times where God will enter into our daily lives without us seeking Him out. For example, someone may offer you kind words or perform an act of charity for you spontaneously.

You may receive a phone call or visit from an old friend or family member. Or you may be struck by beauty in one of its many forms. There are so many small ways that God showers us in His grace each day.

It is my prayer that we have the eyes to see and the ears to hear when He speaks to us through these moments. When I began my discernment for the priesthood, I prayed daily that God would reveal Himself to me and I deeply desired to encounter Him. If we remain recollected in this way, we will be sure not to miss all the small ways that God intervenes in our lives. And once we discover that He is constantly filling us with His grace, our desire for Him will grow so strong that we are willing to do whatever is necessary to obtain Him. This necessarily leads us toward a spirit of detachment in which we realize that nothing can totally satisfy us like Jesus can.

A personal relationship with Jesus is the most important thing for us. It is worth giving up our finite possessions in order to possess Him and be

possessed by Him who is of infinite value!

Faith Formation:

(Religious Education for children enrolled in Public School)

*For children in Pre-K through Grade 7, this program is offered during the school year, September - May. We partner with parents and guardians in supporting and continuing their child’s faith journey. This program consists of monthly meetings and extra faith-filled activities.

For children in Grade 2 and over, to help them prepare to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Celebration of First Reconciliation is in

the fall and First Holy Communion is celebrated

parish-wide in May.
