The Wicked Weed / Brad Johnson Celebrity Golf Classic 2020 at Etowah Valley Golf and Resort

The Wicked Weed/Brad Johnson Celebrity Golf Classic, held Tuesday, June 9 th  at the Etowah Valley Golf & Resort to benefit Eblen Charities was a huge success, raising more than $20,000 to help those in need in our community. We were proud to be able to host the first Golf Tournament in WNC with the challenges of Covid-19 restrictions, we are so thankful to the Etowah Valley Golf & Resort for helping us make this tournament safe and fun for the teams. We are grateful to Wicked Weed Brewing for being the Tournament Sponsor for the fourth year along with Brad Johnson, who has been supporting the tournament for the past 16 years! We also thank each of our Round, Premiere and Team Sponsors who have been supporting this tournament for many years.
The spring golf tournament has been taking place for 31 years, and this year we felt it was important to keep the tradition going, as the funds are needed more than ever to help those affected by the pandemic. The funds raised by the spring golf tournament have always been important, as the funds raised help families during the summer months, when there are little federal funds available. We are able to provide assistance with rent, utilities, medication, etc.
Congratulations to our Winners!

bioPure Asheville partners with Eblen Charities to provide a clean and safe environment.

Eblen Charities is honored to be one of the first partnerships bioPURE Asheville has developed in our community. As we are continuing to provide assistance to families and individuals in the Asheville, NC region during times of hardship and crisis, the team at bioPURE will be working with us to provide a safer and healthier facility to protect our guests, visitors, and staff. In preparation of entering into Phase 3 of the COVID-19 reopening, this will be vital to our community.

“I’m proud to have the opportunity to provide this critical service to the Eblen Charities organization,” explained Matt. “The work they’re doing is so important to our region, and the last thing they need to be concerned with is the added threat and stress of illness and infection.”

“We’re excited to bring the innovative bioPURE disinfection service to our neighbors and businesses here in the Asheville region,” says Matt Pencarinha, owner and operator of bioPURE Asheville. “I’ve had the good fortune to build a reputation as a leader in Asheville in facility cleaning through my business Reliable Medical Cleaning, and wanted to add the best option for effective disinfection services. I am very pleased to partner with bioPURE and am confident that our disinfection technology, service, and support is the best available. Our team is looking forward to providing this critical service to the schools, businesses, institutions, and residents in our home region.”

bioPURE, a leader in commercial and residential disinfection services, has recently expanded operations to respond to the growing demand for their treatment services in the greater-Asheville region. The company provides an advanced form of disinfection and cleaning services to remove harmful germs, bacteria, and viruses from residents, institutions, and commercial operations.* bioPURE’s proprietary disinfectant is registered and approved by the EPA to use against the SARS-CoV-2—the virus responsible for COVID-19—when used on hard, non-porous surfaces in accordance to bioPURE’s treatment process.

Enhanced Giving Incentives for Taxpayers
Temporary Changes to Charitable Giving Laws

A key aspect of the CARES Act that directly impacts philanthropy is a temporary lifting of the adjusted gross income (AGI) limitation for cash gifts made by individuals to certain charitable organizations. Normally, an individual is limited in the amount of charitable gifts that she may deduct from her federal income taxes in a tax year. For example, taxpayers are typically not able to deduct more than 60 percent of their AGI for cash gifts made to public charities (for those taxpayers who itemize their deductions).

Under the CARES Act, the 60 percent AGI limit will not apply for charitable contributions made in cash during 2020, meaning taxpayers who itemize may deduct up to 100 percent of their AGI for qualifying charitable gifts made this year. This enhanced giving incentive applies to cash contributions only and does not apply to contributions to a donor advised fund or a supporting organization.

Further, there is a temporary above-the-line charitable deduction available for donors who do not itemize deductions on their federal taxes. The CARES Act provides for a maximum deduction of $300 for charitable contributions for taxpayers that elect not to itemize their deductions on their tax returns. As with those who itemize, the deduction does not apply to contributions made to a donor advised fund or a supporting organization.
