Greetings!

The readings this week can teach us a powerful lesson. In the gospel, the disciples find themselves caught in a storm on the Sea of Galilee. If the experience of the crashing waves and the wind wasn’t enough, they were utterly terrified at the approach of Jesus, who they took for a ghost. In his boldness, Peter asks to walk on water, and Jesus grants his request. But the story does not end there. Peter does the unthinkable—walks on water, and yet he succumbs to fear almost immediately. Peter is quickly overwhelmed when he takes his eyes off of Jesus and gives his full attention to the storm around him. How easy it is in our own lives to forget about the strength we have in Christ and focus merely on our own human strength. 

When we face difficulties, is our first instinct to try and solve the problem ourselves or to go to Jesus for help? It is easy to surrender everything to Jesus when our lives are running smoothly. Why is it so difficult to trust Him when things do not go the way we planned? Did He suddenly revoke His promise to be with us always, or did we forget that we have His Spirit dwelling in us? 

We cannot even begin to comprehend the extent to which God loves us. Jesus is the only man to ever rise from the dead. If we can’t trust Him, who can we trust? 

I invite you this week to more fully surrender to God, in the good and the bad times. If we focus too much on the present storms, we will miss the countless ways He is speaking to us throughout our days. 

Ponder Elijah in our first reading today. Upon the mountain, Elijah witnessed earthquakes and fire and many sorts of storms. None of these moved Elijah to fear and none stopped him from seeking God. If Elijah had been discouraged by the earthquake, he would have taken his focus off of searching for God and would have missed God when He passed by. 

When we find ourselves in the storms of our lives, be patient and trust God, knowing that He is always there. Find God in the storm, as long as our focus remains on Him, we have no reason to fear!

is pleased to announce we

Have adopted a Rochester family!

Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services has connected

us with a family preparing to go back to school. There are

five children: two in high school, two in middle

school, and one in kindergarten. They also have an older

child that has graduated.

We will collect items from their school supply lists

throughout the month of August, at each Saint Kateri

Parish church. Collection boxes will be clearly marked and

placed near the Welcome Desks. 

All items must be returned by

8/30/26.

Faith Formation:

(Religious Education for children enrolled in Public School)

*For children in Pre-K through Grade 7, this program is offered during the school year, September - May. We partner with parents and guardians in supporting and continuing their child’s faith journey. This program consists of monthly meetings and extra faith-filled activities.

For children in Grade 2 and over, to help them prepare to receive the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Celebration of First Reconciliation is in

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

OCIA is a process of spiritual formation which prepares adults for full initiation into the faith.

At Saint Kateri Parish, we meet as a small group to explore and discuss the foundations of our Catholic faith and help each other to grow in our relationship with the Lord.

OCIA is for:

• Anyone who is curious about the Catholic Church
• Anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic
• Adult Catholics who have not completed the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion, or Confirmation).

Parishioners are welcome to join any of our sessions.

Continuous enrollment and year-round sessions
