2020 Contraceptive Social Marketing Statistics Released!

We are excited to share the 2020 Contraceptive Social Marketing Statistics, a collection of programs that provide contraceptives and reproductive health products around the world.
In 2020, 120 programs around the world generated 84.8 million Couple Years of Protection (CYPs). 
These programs sold: 
  • 1,568,898,643 condoms
  • 5,089,356 IUDs
  • 1,167,774 hormonal implants
  • 25,050,655 units of emergency contraception
  • 201,191,988 oral contraceptive cycles
  • 28,993,780 injectables
  • 7,300,157 medical abortion combipacks
  • 39,183,843 misoprostol pills

While the pandemic disrupted the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) supply chain, the need for affordable, accessible, and quality contraceptive products did not diminish. These programs went above and beyond to ensure there was no gap in SRH care. 
We would like to thank the partners and social marketing organizations who provided this information and assisted with completing this report. We hope this information will be utilized by the SRH community, local and national governments, and other public health partners to understand the role and benefit of social marketing and the private sector in ensuring couples around the world have access to contraception and exercise their right to control their reproductive futures.
