We are excited to share the 2020 Contraceptive Social Marketing Statistics, a collection of programs that provide contraceptives and reproductive health products around the world.
In 2020, 112 programs across 68 countries generated 81.6 million Couple Years of Protection (CYPs).
These programs sold:
- 1,472,934,069 condoms
- 5,089,356 IUDs
- 1,167,774 hormonal implants
- 24,307,862 units of emergency contraception
- 196,327,386 oral contraceptive cycles
- 28,739,652 injectables
- 7,224,423 medical abortion combipacks
- 26,153,771 misoprostol pills

While the pandemic disrupted the sexual and reproductive health (SRH) supply chain, the need for affordable, accessible, and quality contraceptive products did not diminish. These programs went above and beyond to ensure there was no gap in SRH care.
We would like to thank the partners and social marketing organizations who provided this information and assisted with completing this report. We hope this information will be utilized by the SRH community, local and national governments, and other public health partners to understand the role and benefit of social marketing and the private sector in ensuring couples around the world have access to contraception and exercise their right to control their reproductive futures.
