2021 Contraceptive Social Marketing Statistics are out!

We are excited to share the publication of the 2021 Contraceptive Social Marketing Statistics.

In 2021, 101 programs across 62 countries generated 78.1 million Couple Years of Protection (CYPs). 

These programs sold: 
  • 1,350,958,750 condoms
  • 5,162,066 IUDs
  • 483,213 hormonal implants
  • 30,642,191 units of emergency contraception
  • 209,606,713 oral contraceptive cycles
  • 33,600,968 injectables
  • 8,071,230 medical abortion combipacks
  • 43,575,160 misoprostol pills

As the world continues to grapple with the pandemic, the need for safe, quality, and accessible sexual and reproductive health (SRH) care remains constant and social marketing programs around the world stepped up to ensure products and services were available.  
We are grateful to the partners and social marketing organizations who assisted with this report and demonstrate the power of social marketing every day. We hope this information will be useful for the SRH community, local and national governments, and other public health partners to understand the power of social marketing and the private sector in ensuring people around the world have access to contraception and exercise their right to control their reproductive futures.
