Fresh back from tours of Sweden, Finland, and The Netherlands, we’re diving into our new season – tackling tough topics through new choral music, telling the stories of our time. Sometimes joyful and exuberant (like new works of Tania León and Ayanna Woods in September!). Sometimes contemplative and thought-provoking (David Lang’s poor hymnal in December). At other times, violent and raw (David T. Little’s SIN-EATER, the title work of our season).
Sin-eater: a “poor rascal” paid to assume the sins of the recently deceased,
so that they might enter into heaven pure.
With works of Wang Lu, Tyshawn Sorey, Gavin Bryars, we wonder,
“Who sacrifices for the comfort of others?”
Once, they were goats, sent to the Wilderness.
Now, people, bringing the Wilderness inside.
Complex questions, sung, as we ponder our age, our maturity, the soul of our community, and that of the nation whose stories we tell.
Take a peek at our full Season HERE (with iniquity-laden goat art by our own tenor, Steven Bradshaw) and see us in the New York Times Fall Preview. Then, mark your calendars, and make plans with friends to come hear us sing!
A season of figurative goats; generous, curious, brazen, clever, playful.
And, consider helping to make it happen.
Be a part of the creation of new art by making a “let’s get this season going” gift –
we need it, and it will really help!
