This week began with taking a stand during the final reading of SB-003, which creates a paywall to our Second Amendment rights. The left pushed it through despite numerous attempts to demonstrate that this bill is unconstitutional. The rest of the week saw our caucus working hard for the people of Colorado, achieving real, common-sense solutions. From preserving access to rural independent pharmacies and protecting victims of economic abuse to advancing tax incentives for employee-owned businesses and promoting drug overdose education in schools, we are delivering solutions that support families, small businesses, and vulnerable communities across the state.

Senate Bill 25-009

Recognition of Tribal Court Orders

Rep. Ron Weinberg - Prime Sponsor

SB25-009: Recognition of Tribal Court Orders expands legal recognition and strengthens the authority of Tribal courts. Social Media Tools for Minor Users & Parents

Rep. Jarvis Caldwell - Prime Sponsor

This bill would require social media platforms to offer tools that help protect minors online, including parental controls, time limits, and safeguards against addictive features. It also mandates age verification for users and imposes restrictions on data collection and engagement-driven algorithms. While intended to address concerns about social media’s impact on youth mental health, this bill expands government control over private businesses and raises privacy concerns regarding mandatory age verification.

Juvenile Detention Bed Cap

Rep. Dan Woog - Prime Sponsor

Right now, Colorado has a hard limit on juvenile detention beds—meaning many youth who should be held are instead released due to lack of space. This bill would raise the cap from 215 to 254 beds for FY 25-26 and set future caps based on actual population projections, ensuring detention centers have enough space to hold juveniles who pose a serious risk to public safety.

In 2021, Democrats cut detention beds from 327 to 215, forcing a catch-and-release system that fails victims and communities. We need to stop letting dangerous offenders back on the streets simply because of an arbitrary cap.

House Bill 25-1303

Funding for Motor Vehicle Collision Prevention

HB25-1303 creates a new bureaucracy with the Crash Prevention Enterprise, funded by hefty fees on auto insurance policies that will double within six months and continue increasing with inflation. Colorado is already one of the least profitable states for insurers to operate, and this bill will only make it worse—driving away competition, increasing costs for consumers, and making it harder for new insurers to enter the market. Creating another enterprise and slapping on more fees is not the answer. Come testify against this harmful bill!
