This week, our caucus focused on the fight against SB25-003, a fatally flawed and unconstitutional bill that undermines the Second Amendment. Despite being rewritten multiple times, this bill continues to fail in its attempt to address public safety and instead targets law-abiding gun owners. SB25-003 adds unnecessary government bureaucracy, creates convoluted exemptions and training requirements, and does nothing to combat crime. It is a clear attempt to push a political agenda that seeks to infringe upon our constitutional rights. As Coloradans have repeatedly rejected extreme gun control measures, we remain committed to defending our God-given rights and ensuring that our laws support, rather than hinder, responsible gun ownership. Stay engaged as we continue to fight for a Colorado that upholds the Constitution and protects the rights of its citizens.

Consumers Construction Defect Action

HB25-1261 is a harmful bill that encourages prolonged litigation in construction defect cases by adding interest to the prevailing claimant. Rather than fostering resolution, this bill promotes drawn-out legal battles that will only add to the already high costs of homebuilding in Colorado. This type of policy will exacerbate the housing crisis, making it even harder for Coloradans to afford new homes. Constituents should testify against this bill to protect the homebuilding industry and ensure a more practical approach to addressing construction defects without worsening the affordability crisis.

Freedom from Intimidation in Elections Act

HB25-1225: Freedom from Intimidation in Elections Act is a troubling bill that undermines constitutional rights by presuming individuals carrying firearms at election-related activities are guilty of intimidation, without requiring proof of intent. This bill expands upon existing laws by creating a presumption of guilt for those carrying visible or imitation firearms, placing the burden of proof on the defendant. It threatens to infringe upon Second Amendment rights, particularly by allowing broad restrictions on firearm use and potential lawsuits against lawful gun owners. Constituents should testify against this bill to protect their right to bear arms and prevent government overreach that could create legal uncertainty and arbitrary criminalization of lawful behavior.

Utility On-Bill Repayment Program Financing

Constituents should strongly consider testifying against HB25-1268, as this bill would redirect $100 million from the unclaimed property trust fund, which is already burdened with nearly $800 million in liabilities. This creates a monetary redistribution scheme that puts taxpayers at risk, using state funds for loans to citizens for energy efficiency measures. Not only does this undermine financial responsibility, but it also creates unnecessary strain on state resources. The Department of the Treasury has expressed strong opposition to this bill, and it is crucial that constituents voice their concerns to protect both their financial future and the stability of state funds.
