We Truly Appreciate Your Support!

On October 10th, Disability Rights New Jersey held its 30th Anniversary Celebration at the Boathouse in Mercer County, commemorating three decades as the state’s designated Protection and Advocacy system for people with disabilities.

Our special celebration brought together our partners in advocacy, friends and colleagues, volunteers and staff of today and throughout the years, who have devoted their careers to the pursuit of justice and inclusion for New Jerseyans with disabilities.

The evening kicked off with a video we created to honor the dedicated and passionate staff - some of whom have been with us from the start - and the 30 years of history, systemic actions that led to advancements in the human, civil, and legal rights of New Jerseyans with disabilities, and our progression into the organization we are today.

The "30 Years of Service" themed gala presented the inaugural Disability Rights Impact Awards, recognizing exceptional leaders and advocates in the New Jersey disability community for their outstanding contributions to advance our mission, empowering people with disabilities to live inclusive, productive, and meaningful lives.

The Sarah W. Mitchell Exceptional Staff Award was presented to Maritza Williams, Director of Intake and Self-Advocacy at Disability Rights New Jersey, also celebrating her 30th year with our organization.

The Joseph B. Young Excellence in Legal Advocacy Award was presented to Ryann Siclari, a Principal attorney at Porzio Bromberg & Newman, and long-time collaborator and volunteer of our PAIMI Advisory Council.

The Barbara H. Coppens Advancing Olmstead Award was presented to Nancy Feldman, founder of the Youth Justice Project at Disability Rights New Jersey, which advocates for justice-impacted youth with disabilities in Mercer and Essex counties.

Congratulations to our distinguished honorees for their passionate contributions and dedication to Disability Rights New Jersey and all that they do to make New Jersey a better, safer, more just place for people with disabilities.

Our thanks to all the attendees for sharing in the celebration... Especially our generous Event Sponsors, Silent Auction Donors, Program Advertisers, and all who supported the fundraisers throughout the evening and made donations in support of the important work we do, as we continue to push the needle forward for New Jerseyans with disabilities.

Disability Rights New Jersey has come a long way in thirty years, but there is still so much more to do. As the disability community expands and the supports and services needed for individuals are lacking for them to live free from abuse, neglect, discrimination, and as they wish, there is work for us to do.

Please consider supporting the next thirty years as we work to advance justice and advocate inclusion as the state's Protection and Advocacy system for people with disabilities here in New Jersey.

Your donation will make a difference and help us grow and broaden our expertise to address the needs of the expanding disability community so that New Jerseyans with disabilities can realize the productive, fulfilling, and meaningful lives they deserve.

HOW WE HELP

Logo Square for Social.png

Disability Rights New Jersey, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to advancing and protecting the human, civil, and legal rights of people with disabilities.

  • We aggressively investigate reports of abuse and neglect wherever a person with a disability may be receiving services.

  • We thoroughly monitor facilities and community-based programs to ensure that people living in those facilities and using those services are free from abuse and neglect, and that their rights are not violated.

  • We provide legal representation, without charge, to people with disabilities in cases that fall within our priority setting process.

  • We are dedicated to providing education, training, and technical assistance to people with disabilities, their families and advocates, the agencies that service them, and policy makers among others.

  • We provide state-of-the-art access to information and advice about assistive technology.
