Bull Moose Club Co-working Space Celebrates Grand Opening in Downtown Alban
y
"Troy Innovation Garage [and] Bull Moose Club are critical to meet the needs of the Capital Region's evolving private sector economy, particularly the growth of software startups, new creative businesses, and an influx of professionals who work remotely and choose to live in Upstate New York," - Tom Nardacci, Owner of Bull Moose (TimesUnion)
The long awaited grand opening of the Bull Moose Club, the co-working space designed to cater to political advocacy took place on January 14th. The 10,000 square foot location in the heart of Downtown Albany comes as another addition to owner Tom Nardacci's ever-growing list of ventures and co-working spaces in the Capital Region, joining Troy Innovation Garage, Aurelius Coworks and Grammercy Communications. The State Street location directly across from the capital brings a much needed space start-up businesses and groups that work in the State's political economy to call home in downtown Albany. A number of influential political figures were in attendance for the opening including Former U.S. Senator Alfonse D'Amato, Former Congressman Mike McNulty and Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul. Those who were in attendance for the first look at the completed space describe the location as "a game changer" to the co-working ecosystem. What's next for Nardacci? The entrepreneur has plans to expand his coworking empire throughout the Capital Region.
Events have already started taking place at the new Bull Moose, kicking off with Albany Fireside Chats with Jeff Buell, real estate investor and Founder of the
"Do The Next Good Thing" Campaign, hosted by Startup Grind.

The Importance of Measuring Activities in Startups: UAlbany Innovation Center and Innovate 518 Entrepreneur-In-Residence Robert Manasier Shares Insight on Why All Startups (or all businesses for that matter) Need to Measure Activity
|
We all plan and project and hope for results every day in business. We map out messaging, go-to-market plans and sales strategies that will get the clients to flock to our doors BUT in reality, the market interprets, translates and ultimately decides the results. This seems unfair, arbitrary and out of our control AND it is to an extent.
But wait, do not despair completely. There is one aspect in business that every one of us (small, solo, large, no matter the size of the company or stage (idea, startup, growing etc.) has ABSOLUTE control over and that is scheduled activities and the measuring of said activities.
No matter the circumstances, we can control our activities and the repeatable scheduling of the efforts and the measuring of the outcomes. The timing of the activities and its frequency is very important to resource allocation but the measuring of these activities is essential to business success and the all important pivot to market that we espouse every day. This takes discipline, a hard head (a key to all entrepreneurs) and the ability to be honest with the results and to make changes even when it hurts the ego. So what activities to do? How to track them?
First, start with an easy to handle schedule and some achievable goals. You still have to run the business, take care of staff, service the clients and think of what's next for the company. Most people fill up their schedules with impossible events and tasks every day and within the first few days are behind so just quit doing anything. So start with daily outreach by email/ calls, a weekly read on a topic that you are weaker business-wise in and a monthly event to go to.
Regarding achievable goals, set metrics like: new business contacts met, follow up conversations held, relevant articles read and events attended and worked. Events are to socialize and to meet new professionals, not just to hang with your crew. Always go to an event with research in mind, a set number of new contacts and a set number of follow up appointments set. Meeting the right potential clients/partners/investors takes practice and time. This is not a fast solution but is the best way to build real sustainability and success. Remember real business relationships take time and effort. To build success in business, you need this for and with your clients.
The true value to measuring lies in the real, operational data specific to your business that you will collect and analyze. This data and your efforts in creating it will help give you leverage and expertise in your company and to all you interact with. This real-world data and knowledge of it, is the start to making you the expert you need to be to your staff, clients, vendors, partners and investors. Give the activities a quarter of the year to get some real intel than change the activities if the results did not materialize. Enjoy and respect the activities' process and the results will materialize.
