Jetstream2 Used for Agriculture Research

Two graduate students from Tennessee State University used Jetstream2 at Indiana University to study the effects of biochar and nitrogen on soil microbial communities. The charcoal-like substance can combat soil degradation and improve soil fertility without the negative effects of nitrogen fertilizers.

Unlocking the Secrets of Blood Vessel Growth

Researchers at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of Florida created 3D simulations of blood flow using Expanse at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. The work led to a groundbreaking discovery on how blood flows through tiny new vessels called sprouts that could help treat a wide range of conditions.

Back to the Classroom with ACCESS

Are you an educator using or considering using supercomputing and data storage resources with your students? With the fall semester soon beginning, keep in mind that ACCESS resources are available for students, instructors and classroom projects. Explore ACCESS, the smallest-scale projects, are a great fit for smaller classes and training events. Discover ACCESS projects, offering medium-scale allocations, are excellent for larger classes and training events. Graduate students with a letter of support from their advisor are eligible to be principal investigators on Explore ACCESS and Discover ACCESS projects to support their thesis and dissertation work. Both types of requests are accepted any time, and educators are encouraged to make a separate request for each project. Take advantage of ACCESS resources this semester to set up your students for success!

Get Ready for SC25

With a successful PEARC25 behind us, it's already time to start thinking about the annual Supercomputing Conference, set this year for Nov. 16–21 in St. Louis. Registration is now open for all and exhibitors have until August 8 to submit proposals for the Exhibitor Forum. It'll be here before you know it – don't wait!

Spotlight

ACCESS at PEARC25

If you attended the PEARC25 Conference in Columbus, OH, last week you know that ACCESS had a strong presence from the conference's start to its closing. The ACCESS booth in the Exhibit Hall gave visitors the chance to talk to ACCESS staff and pick up a copy of the Program Year 3 Highlights book. ACCESS presented a half-day workshop and made sure to get the word out about its successes in enabling science during the last three years. ACCESS staff and partners also participated in a wide range of tutorials, workshops and paper presentations that covered many hot topics, including how to write a successful ACCESS proposal, using CI in the classroom, Campus Champions and the NAIRR Pilot program and much, much more. Proceedings from the conference are now available at the PEARC website.
