ACCESS Allocation News

Upcoming Webinars: How to Write a Successful Maximize ACCESS Allocations Request

Please help us spread the word! Does your research – or a colleague’s research – require large-scale computational, analysis or storage resources? If so, check out one of the upcoming webinars on how to craft a successful Maximize ACCESS Allocations request. With no upper credit limit, Maximize is the largest-scale opportunity available (see documentation for more information). At 2 p.m. ET on Dec. 12, the ACCESS Allocations team will discuss the required components, review criteria and other information you need to write the most impactful Maximize request. A second webinar will be held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 16, 2024.

Maximize ACCESS Request Window Opening Soon

For researchers with the largest-scale computational, analysis and storage needs, requests for Maximize ACCESS allocations can be made from Dec. 15, 2023 to Jan. 31, 2024. Approved requests will begin or renew on April 1, 2024. The full allocation request timeline is as follows:

  • December 15: Request window opens
  • January 31: Request window closes
  • Early March: Review meeting
  • Mid-March: Notifications sent to requestors
  • April 1: Start/renewal date

Two webinars on “How to Write a Successful Maximize ACCESS Allocations Request” will take place before and during the request window (see previous article). The next Maximize ACCESS request window will be June 15 to July 31, 2024, with awards starting October 1, 2024.

Researchers with existing large-scale XSEDE Research or earlier Maximize ACCESS allocations should contact the Allocations team with any questions or concerns to determine the best option for aligning project renewals with the semi-annual schedule. When your request is ready, please submit it here.

Have suggestions on how we can improve allocations processes for ACCESS? Send us your feedback.

ACCESS Operations News

Student Interns Assist Operations Team

The ACCESS Operations Student Training and Engagement Program (STEP) has entered its STEP-3 phase with two students involved in a part-time internship program that will continue through the 2023–2024 academic year. One of the students is embedded with the cybersecurity team assisting with Qualys reorganization, which will better streamline ACCESS vulnerability management. This restructuring also will ensure precise access to resources without the need for global administrative privileges, a feature that will safeguard resources while maintaining seamless accessibility. The other student intern works with the operational support team to improve accessibility to ACCESS resource information for researchers. The work targets the AI chatbot and includes writing programs to generate AI-friendly documents from ACCESS database content.

Congratulations to all for sharing their ACCESS work with the larger community!

ACCESS Support News

Support Looking for MATCH Mentor

ACCESS Support is looking for a mentor (who will be rewarded with a $2,500 CCEP) for a three-month MatchPlus engagement. The project, "GPU-accelerated ice sheet flow modeling," is with the University of North Dakota. Details can be found here. If you are interested in serving as a mentor and guide to the current student on the project from January to March 2024, please contact Alana Romanella.

Refreshed Support Portal

ACCESS Support is pleased to present its refreshed portal. The portal was designed to include improved navigation and additional information about the variety of support programs available through ACCESS. Some highlights of the new release include: the ACCESS Resource Advisor (currently in Beta), designed to help users find appropriate infrastructure for their research; and the ACCESS Video Learning Center, which provides an orientation to ACCESS for both new and existing users.

A special thanks to Lissie Fein, Andrew Pasquale, and Miles Frances for their hard work and design expertise in improving the portal.
